The synthesis and characterization of aluminum loaded SBA-type materials as catalyst for polypropylene degradation reaction
Obali, Zeynep; Sezgi, Naime Aslı; Doğu, Timur (2011-12-01)
The performance of pure and aluminum containing SBA-type catalysts prepared using different aluminum sources and different Al/Si ratios were investigated in the polypropylene degradation reaction using a thermogravimetric analyzer. For the synthesis of catalysts, aluminum isopropoxide and aluminum sulphate were used as the aluminum sources. Synthesized materials had high surface areas and exhibited nitrogen adsorption isotherms of type IV. EDS results showed that the aluminum incorporation into the structur...
The synthesis of zinc, chloride and fluoride doped nano hydroxylapatites by precipitation method and investigation of their mechanical, structural and biological properties
Uysal, İdil; Evis, Zafer; Severcan, Feride; Department of Biomedical Engineering (2011)
This study aimed synthesizing hydroxylapatite (HA) and Zn2+, F- and Cl- doped HA by solution precipitation method. The synthesized compounds were sintered at 1100°C for 1h. For structural characterization, density of the samples were measured by Archimedes’ method. It was observed that Zn2+ addition increased the density significantly whereas F- caused a decrease and Cl- increased the density with a little amount. XRD was applied to the samples and it was found that co-doping of Zn2+ and F- ions decreased t...
THE MECHANICAL CHARACTERIZATION AND IN VIVO EVALUATION OF POROUS TiNi AS GRAFT MATERIAL
Arpak, Bertan; Araz, Kenan; Nakas, Ipek; Bor, Sakir; Nergiz, Ibrahim (2012-09-01)
To obtain TiNi foams with interconnected pores that have surface quality necessary for bone growth in addition to required mechanical performance, sintering with the space holder technique was employed in this study, which aimed to evaluate the bone healing process of TiNi graft materials. For this purpose, processed TiNi foams with three different porosities were placed into the created defects in the femur of rats. Moreover, the mechanical properties of the processed TiNi foams were conducted via monotoni...
The synthesis of titanium dioxide photocatalysts by sol-gel method: the effect of hydrothermal treatment conditions and use of carbon nanotube template
Yürüm, Alp; Karakaş, Gürkan; Department of Chemical Engineering (2009)
Titanium dioxide (TiO2), a semiconductor, has been used in many areas like heterogeneous photocatalysis. In the present study, the effect of hydrothermal treatment conditions and the use of carbon nanotubes on the photocatalytic activity of sol-gel synthesized titanium dioxide were examined. The anatase particles were transformed into layered trititanate particles with either nanotube or nanoplate structure by hydrothermal treatment under the alkaline conditions. Post hydrothermal treatment under neutral co...
The formation and characterization of cyclodextrin functionalized polystyrene nanofibers produced by electrospinning
Uyar, Tamer; Havelund, Rasmus; Hacaloğlu, Jale; Zhou, Xingfei; Besenbacher, Flemming; Kingshott, Peter (2009-05-18)
Polystyrene (PS) nanofibers containing the inclusion complex forming beta-cyclodextrin (β-CD) were successfully produced by electrospinning aimed at developing functional fibrous nanowebs. By optimization of the electrospinning parameters, which included varying the relative concentration of PS and β-CD in the solutions, bead-free fibers were produced. Homogeneous solutions of β-CD and PS in dimethylformamide (DMF) were used with concentrations of PS varying from 10% to 25% (w/v, with respect to DMF), and β...
