Simulation of Instant and Delayed Seismic Triggering Observed After the 30 October 2020 Samos Earthquake at Nearby Faults
Sopacı, Eyüp; Özacar, Atilla Arda (2021-04-19)
Simulation of seismic triggering and failure time perturbations associated with the 30 October 2020 Samos earthquake (Mw 7.0)
Sopaci, Eyup; Özacar, Atilla Arda (2021-01-01)
The 30 October 2020 Samos earthquake (Mw = 7.0) ruptured a north-dipping offshore normal fault north of the Samos Island with an extensional mechanism. Aftershocks mainly occurred at the western and eastern ends of the rupture plane in agreement with the Coulomb static stress changes. Mechanism of aftershocks located west of the rupture supported activation of the neighboring strike-slip fault almost instantly. In addition, a seismic cluster including events with Mw similar to 4 has emerged two days later a...
Simulation of water quality during unsteady flow in the Chicago Waterway System
Melchıng, Charles; Alp, Emre; Sherasta, Ram; Lanyon, Rıchard (null; 2004-01-01)
The Chicago Waterway System (CWS) is composed of the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal (CSSC), Calumet-Sag Channel, North Shore Channel, lower portion of the North Branch Chicago River, South Branch Chicago River, Chicago River, and Little Calumet River. In total, the CWS is a 76.3 mi (122.8-km) branching network of navigable waterways controlled by hydraulic structures in which the majority of flow is treated sewage effluent. The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRDGC) will soon b...

Simulation of event-based snowmelt runoff hydrographs based on snow depletion curves and the degree-day method
Sensoy, A; Tekeli, AE; Forman, AA; Sorman, AU (Informa UK Limited, 2003-12-01)
In mountainous regions, runoff from snowmelt is an important hydrologic and economic factor, and therefore early runoff forecasting brings significant advantages to the planning and operation of water resources systems. Similarly, predicting runoff from snowmelt during spring months in the eastern part of Turkey, where most of the water originates from high mountains and contributes to the large dams on the Euphrates River, is of crucial importance. In this study, an event-type, physically based hydrologic ...
