Effects of swirl and high turbulence on a jet in a crossflow
Kavsaoğlu, Mehmet S.; Schetz, Joseph A. (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), 1989-6)
An experimental study has been conducted on the effects of initial swirl and high turbulence in the exhaust of a circular jet injected from a flat plate at a 90-deg angle into a crossflow. The different jet types studied were low-exit turbulence (3%), high-exit turbulence (>10°7o), and 40 and 58% swirl. Surface pressure distributions and mean velocity vector plots were obtained for all of these cases. For the surface pressure distribution tests, the jet to crossflow velocity ratios R were 2.2, 4, and 8 ...
Effects of inflow boundary layer on the wake of a radially non-uniform porous disk
Abdulrahim, Anas; Akpolat, M. Tuğrul; Hassanein, Abdelrahman; Perçin, Mustafa; Uzol, Oğuz (2021-05-01)
This study presents the results of an experimental investigation focusing on the effects of the inflow boundary layer on the wake characteristics of a 0.12 m diameter porous disk with radially non-uniform porosity in terms of mean flow, turbulence, and wake scaling. Two-dimensional two-component particle image velocimetry measurements within the wake are performed up to 7.5 diameters downstream as the disk is lowered deeper into a boundary layer that is representative of a neutral atmospheric boundary layer...
EFFECTS of ROTATION of MATERIAL AXES ON FREE FLEXURAL VIBRATIONS of CENTRALLY BONDED SYMMETRIC DOUBLE DOUBLER JOINT in COMPOSITE MINDLIN PLATES or PANELS
Yuceoglu, U.; Guvendik, O. (2011-11-17)
The present study investigates the serious effects of rotation of material axes on the free dynamic response of composite plates or panels with "Bonded Double Doubler Mint Systems". The "Plate Adherends" and the "Upper and Lower Doubler Plates" are connected through the relatively very thin adhesive layers. The "Bonded Double Doubler Joint System" is considered in taans of the "System. 1" and the "System.2". In the "System. 1", the material directions of "Plate Adherends" are rotated 90(0) (about z-axis) wh...
Effects of Distributed Air-Gaps in the Iron-Core of Shunt Reactors on Inductance Components and Losses
Donuk, A.; Bilgin, H. F.; Ermiş, Muammer (2012-05-01)
In this paper, effects of dividing the air-gap in the iron-core of shunt reactors into several discrete gaps on inductance parameters of the equivalent circuit, core losses and gap losses are investigated. This is achieved by both analytical calculations and Finite Element Method based analyses. A new method called Moving Strip Method is also introduced to estimate the gap loss in the iron-core of shunt reactors having discretely distributed small air-gaps relative to those with large air-gaps. Theoretical ...
