Spatiotemporal trends in daily and subdaily rainfall extremes and return levels in Turkey
Albayrak, Derya; Şen, Ömer Lütfi; Yücel, İsmail (2022-11-01)
In this study, we present the long-term daily and subdaily station data of annual extreme rainfall (1970-2015) and the trend analyses in rainfall regimes in Turkey. Trends in 5, 10, 15, and 30 min, 1, 2, 6, 12, and 24 hr of extreme rainfall in seven different rainfall regimes are estimated through nonparametric tests. The trends in return levels (2, 20, and 100 years) are defined by an appropriate three-parameter generalized extreme value distribution and are evaluated in the climatological context of rainf...
Spatiotemporal characterization of extracellular matrix microstructures in engineered tissue: A whole-field spectroscopic imaging approach
Xu, Zhengbin; Özçelikkale, Altuğ; Kim, Young L.; Han, Bumsoo (2013-02-01)
Quality and functionality of engineered tissues are closely related to the microstructures and integrity of their extracellular matrix (ECM). However, currently available methods for characterizing ECM structures are often labor-intensive, destructive, and limited to a small fraction of the total area. These methods are also inappropriate for assessing temporal variations in ECM structures. In this study, to overcome these limitations and challenges, we propose an elastic light scattering approach to spatio...
Spatiotemporal data mining for situation awareness in microblogs
Özdikiş, Özer; Karagöz, Pınar; Oğuztüzün, Mehmet Halit S.; Department of Computer Engineering (2016)
Detection of real-world events using messages posted in microblogs has been the motivation of numerous recent studies. In this thesis, we study spatiotemporal data mining techniques to improve situation awareness by detecting events and estimating their locations using the content in microblogs, particularly in Twitter. We present an enhancement to the clustering techniques in the literature by measuring associations between terms in tweets in a temporal context and using these associations in a vector expa...
Spatio-temporal ecology, habitat use and population size of brown bears (ursus arctos) in Yusufeli, Turkey
Ambarlı, Hüseyin; Bilgin, Cemal Can; Department of Biology (2012)
Brown bear is the largest mammal in Turkey and its main distribution lies in the Black Sea and Eastern Anatolia Regions. Its basic ecology is almost unknown in Turkey, except for a limited number of studies. This study aims to determine the spatio-temporal ecology and habitat use of brown bears in the Kaçkar Mountains, and to estimate their population size in the Özgüven Valley and Yusufeli, both firsts for Turkey. The study area is primarily covered with conifer and oak stands, but sparse mixed shrubland o...
Decadal changes in zooplankton biomass, composition, and body mass in four shallow brackish lakes in Denmark subjected to varying degrees of eutrophication
He, Hu; Jeppesen, Erik; Bruhn, Dan; Yde, Morten; Hansen, Jacob Kjerulf; Spanggaard, Lasse; Madsen, Niels; Liu, Wei; Sondergaard, Martin; Lauridsen, Torben L. (Informa UK Limited, 2020-04-01)
During the past century, many brackish shallow lakes worldwide have become eutrophic. How the zooplankton have responded to this development is not well elucidated. Here, we analysed the decadal changes (from 1999-2000 to 2017-2018) in zooplankton biomass, body mass, and potential top-down control on phytoplankton during summer in 4 Danish shallow brackish lakes (Lund Fjord, Han Vejle, Selbjerg, and Glombak) subjected to varying degrees of eutrophication. Significant reductions of zooplankton biomass, body ...
