Optimum design of composite stiffened panels with instability considerations
Cankurt, Ali; Oral, Süha; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2013)
In this study, optimum design of stiffened flat panels is investigated with single objective genetic algorithms. The purpose is to have the minimum weight of the stiffeners in stiffened panel with buckling load and some ply configuration constraints. Geometric parameters of the stiffeners and ply angles of both skin and stiffeners are defined as design variables. The ply numbers of both skin and stiffeners are fixed. ANSYS v14.5 is used for the buckling analysis of stiffened panels, and MATLAB is used as th...

Optimum Design of Geodesic Steel Domes Under Code Provisions using Metaheuristic Techniques
Hasançebi, Oğuzhan; Saka, Mehmet Polat (2010-06-01)
Metaheuristic search techniques strongly employ randomized decisions while searching for solutions to structural optimization problems. These techniques play an increasingly important role for practically solving hard combinatorial problems from various domains. Over the past few years there has been considerable success in developing metaheuristic search algorithms as well as randomized systematic search methods for obtaining solutions to discrete programming problems. This paper examines minimum weight de...
Optimum design of composite structures with curved fiber courses
Parnas, L; Oral, Süha; Ceyhan, U (2003-05-01)
In this study, a new methodology for the optimum design of laminated composites with curved fiber courses is presented. The objective of the optimization problem is to minimize the weight of the composite laminate under stress constraints. The Tsai-Hill criterion is employed on the first ply failure basis. Layer thicknesses and fiber angles are represented by bicubic Bezier surfaces and cubic Bezier curves, respectively. Design variables are coordinates of control points of the corresponding Bezier splines....
Optimum design of steel structures via artificial bee colony (abc) algorithm and SAP2000
Eser, Cengiz; Hasançebi, Oğuzhan; Department of Civil Engineering (2014)
Over the past few years, metaheuristic optimization techniques have received considerable attention from engineering researchers. Under metaheuristics, swarm intelligence based algorithms have been used in the solution of various structural optimization problems where the main goal is to minimize the weight of structures while satisfying all design constraints imposed by design codes. In this study, artificial bee colony algorithm (ABC) is utilized to optimize four truss structures from real life and litera...
