Application of non-convex rate dependent gradient plasticity to the modeling and simulation of inelastic microstructure development and inhomogeneous material behavior
Klusemann, Benjamin; Yalçınkaya, Tuncay; Geers, M. G. D.; Svendsen, Bob (Elsevier BV, 2013-12-01)
In this study, a two-dimensional rate-dependent gradient crystal plasticity model for non-convex energetic hardening is formulated and applied to the simulation of inelastic microstructure formation. In particular, non-convex hardening is modeled via a Landau-Devonshire potential for self-hardening and two interaction-matrix-based forms for latent hardening. The algorithmic formulation and the numerical implementation treats the displacement and the glide-system slips as the primary field variables. The num...
Application of artificial neural networks to optimum bit selection
Yilmaz, S; Demircioglu, C; Akın, Serhat (2002-03-01)
Optimum bit selection is one of the important issues in drilling engineering. Usually, optimum bit selection is determined by the lowest cost per foot and is a function of bit cost and performance as well as penetration rate. Conventional optimum rock bit selection program involves development of computer programs created from mathematical models along with information from previously drilled wells in the same area. Based on the data gathered on a daily basis for each well drilled, the optimum drilling prog...
Application of first principles calculations to the design ofrechargeable Li batteries
Ceder, Gerbrand; Aydınol, Mehmet Kadri; Kohan, Adrian (1997-05-01)
Rechargeable Li batteries consist of an anode, electrolyte, and cathode. The cathode is typically an oxide that intercalates Li al very low chemical potential ensuring a large open-cell voltage for the battery. We show how first-principles pseudopotential calculations can be used to predict the intercalation voltage for these materials. By means of a series of computational experiments on virtual structures, we identify the parameters that are important in determining the intercalation voltage of a compound...
