Spare parts inventory management is of vital importance in maintaining high equipment availability at minimum cost, especially for industries utilizing fully mechanized systems and aiming mass and continuous production such as mining. In this paper, it is intended to solve the spare parts inventory problem of a large-scale mining company operating in Turkey, by proposing a mathematical model to optimize the spare parts provisioning strategy in such a way that the total inventory related cost is minimized. Based on the current system analyzed and the real data provided by the company, a case study is conducted on inventory management problem of industrial lubricants, having a great importance in fully-mechanized systems to provide mass and continuous production. The optimization results show that the company's current lubricating oil inventory policy can be improved financially by yielding an annual saving up to (sic)18,566.

DEVELOPMENT OF RELIABILITY-BASED MAINTENANCE POLICIES FOR HAUL TRUCKS IN A SURFACE MINE
Sarıgül, Mert; Gölbaşı, Onur; Department of Mining Engineering (2022-9-2)
The growing production market and the resultant increase in raw material requirements create pressure on mining companies to achieve production at a higher rate by keeping unit operating costs manageable. It is recognized that the performance of mining machinery, maintenance downtime profiles, and operating cost variations are the main parameters effective in the sustainability of machinery fleets. On this basis, developing robust and up-to-date maintenance policies regarding operation dynamics and fleet ma...
Optimization of the lubricating oil inventory policy applied in a mining company

The mining industry should sustain mass and continuous production with an essential contribution of high-capacity machinery. Therefore, spare parts inventory management is vital in ensuring the intended mining production rate as an integral part of maintenance policies. In this paper, a mixed-integer model is presented to solve a multi-item and multi-supplier spare parts inventory model. This model is addressed to a lubricating oil inventory problem in one of the biggest multi-process mining companies in Tu...
Development of a multi-scenario simulation model for spare parts inventory optimization in mining operations

Gaining information about the location of a person or an object has become an important issue in the field of built environment as well as industries such as logistics, transportation, manufacturing and healthcare. Location-based services such as on-road navigation, transportation tracking and route monitoring are the motives for a need towards outdoor location detection. In indoor built environments, the importance of localization arises from its value for construction industry in a various range of applic...
A new approximate evaluation method for two-echelon inventory systems with emergency shipments

We consider the inventory control of repairable spare parts in a network consisting of a central warehouse, a central repair facility, and multiple local warehouses. Demands for spare parts occur at the local warehouses. If a local warehouse is out of stock, then an arriving demand is satisfied by an emergency shipment from the central warehouse or the central repair facility. Such emergency shipments are common practice for networks that support technical systems with high downtime costs. We develop a new ...
