Ni0.5-xCrxS compounds (x = 0, 0.02, 0.33) as electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) were synthesized by a microwave-assisted route that provided an increased surface area. It was found that the OER performance of the NiS electrocatalyst was enhanced by chromium addition. Chromium incorporation was evidenced with Rietveld refinement and XPS analysis. Peak position shifts in the XPS spectra and increases in the lattice parameters a and c indicated the Cr incorporation into the NiS structure. Enhanced kinetic properties, stability and OER activities were achieved with chromium addition due to its contribution to the electronic structure. All samples exhibited competitive results with similar studies and demonstrated better OER activities than the benchmark RuO2. Among three samples, 2 at.% Cr containing NiS sample exhibited the lowest overpotential (334 mV), Tafel slope (42 mV dec−1) and charge transfer resistance (6.1 Ω) values leading to an enhanced OER performance.

Mn(OAc)(3)-promoted sulfur-directed addition of an active methylene compound to alkenes
DELIOMEROGLU, Murat K.; Dengiz, Çağatay; CALISKAN, Rasit; BALCI, METİN (2012-07-22)
Various alkenes substituted at the 1,2-positions by phenyl, thiophene and furan rings were reacted with 3-(4-methoxyphenyl)-3-oxopropanenitrile in the presence of Mn(OAc)(3)center dot 2H(2)O. The exact structure and configuration of the dihydrofuran derivatives formed were determined. In all cases only one regioisomer was formed. The observed regioselectivity was explained on the basis of the formation of a complex between Mn(OAc)(3), alkene, and 3-(4-methoxyphenyl)-3-oxopropanenitrile, which directs the mo...
Silver and fluoride doped hydroxyapatites: Investigation by microstructure, mechanical and antibacterial properties
Turkoz, Mustafa; Atilla, Aykan Onur; Evis, Zafer (Elsevier BV, 2013-12-01)
Hydroxyapatite co-doped with Ag+ and F- ions was synthesized by the precipitation method and sintered at 1100 degrees C for 1 h. Samples were characterized by density, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy to investigate their microstructure, phase formation and bonding characteristics. Moreover, samples were also characterized by microhardness and antibacterial tests. Small amount of dopings resulted in high densities and fine grain...
STRUCTURAL INVESTIGATION OF NANO HYDROXYAPATITES DOPED WITH Mg(2+) AND F(-) IONS
Sun, Z. P.; Evis, Zafer (2009-01-23)
Pure and Mg(2+) & F(-) doped nano hydroxyapatites (HA) were synthesized by a precipitation method and sintered at 1100 degrees C to investigate their densification and structure. Different amounts of Mg(2+) and F ions were doped in to HAs. X-ray diffraction was used to identify the presence of phases And lattice parameters of HA and tri-calcium phosphates (TCP) present in the samples. Densification of HA was improved by the addition of these ions. In most of the doped samples, beta-tri-calcium phosphate (TC...
Gold-Catalyzed Oxime-Oxime Rearrangement
Guven, Sinem; Ozer, Merve Sinem; Kaya, Serap; Menges, Nurettin; BALCI, METİN (2015-06-05)
The gold-catalyzed reaction of pyrrole and indole oximes having a propargyl group attached to the nitrogen atom was studied. The selective 6-endo-dig mode of cyclization was observed for the terminal alkynes giving rise to the formation of pyrazine N-oxides in the presence of a gold catalyst. However, the reaction with substituted alkyne transferred the oxime functionality intramolecularly from one carbon atom to another via the 7-endo-dig cyclization process. This transformation is unprecedented in the lit...
Conducting polymers of succinic acid bis-(2-thiophen-3-yl-ethyl)ester and their electrochromic properties
SACAN, L; Çırpan, Ali; CAMURLU, P; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Elsevier BV, 2006-02-01)
The homopolymer and copolymer of succinic acid bis-(2-thiophen-3-yl-ethyl)ester with thiophene were achieved via constant potential electrolysis in the presence of tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate as the supporting electrolyte, and acetonitrile/borontrifluoride ethylether (ACN/BFEE) (10:2 v/v) solvent mixture. The characterizations of both homopolymer (PSATE) and copolymer P(SATE-co-Th) were achieved by various techniques including cyclic voltammetry (CV), Fr-IR, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and U...
