Biomechanics of porous ceramic implants used in long-bones segmental defect healing
Balçık, Cenk; Tokdemir, Turgut; Korkusuz, Feza; Department of Engineering Sciences (2002)
Reconstruction of bone in segmental defect is a challenging orthopedic application in which nonunion is seen due to loss of tissue and atrophic bonding inability. Calcium and phosphate based ceramics are the new generation of bone grafts to be used in large segmental defects as they show excellent biocompatibility, biodegradability and osteoconductivity. Ideal ceramic composition, configuration and material property compatible to cortical bone is yet to be determined. It is hypothesized that long-bones segm...

Kayıp Bellek: Mübadeleden Önce Gölde (İncesu)
Eken, Esra (2019-09-25)
This paper aims to reveal the collective memory of Gölde (İncesu), a neighborhood of Kula-Manisa, before the population exchange in line with the Lausanne Treaty of 1923. The built environment, economic activities, daily life practices, and rituals were shaped by the existence of these two different communities that shared a common life. After the population exchange, the Rum community left the settlem...
Epic gaze in Paradise Lost
Demirel, Fatih; Sönmez, Margaret Jeanne M.; Department of English Literature (2021-2-01)
This study aims to investigate the workings of gaze in John Milton’s Paradise Lost with regard to Helen Lovatt’s book on epic gaze and the theoretical insights of three important writers on gaze: Sartre, Foucault and Lacan. The study focusses on four main characters of the epic: Satan, God, Adam and Eve. Lovatt’s epic gaze proves to be an appropriate starting point for this study, while the other named theorists’ ideas are employed more or less for different characters and for different scenes. Sartre’s not...
