Optimum tank size for a rainwater harvesting system: Case study for Northern Cyprus
Ruso, Mustafa; Akintug, Bertug; Kentel Erdoğan, Elçin (2019-01-01)
The available freshwater is limited on earth. On the other hand, available water resources on earth have been depleting and being polluted due to climate change and population growth. In order to reduce the risk of water scarcity and water resources contamination, Integrated water resources management (IWRM) is required. IWRM is a concept to manage water resources that aims to balance economic efficiency, social equity, and environmental sustainability. When rainwater harvesting systems (RWHS), one of the t...
Environmental performance of urban patterns in terms of their ecological footprint
Tanrıkulu, Melda; Barlas, Mehmet Adnan; Department of City and Regional Planning (2010)
Within the twenty–first century, nearly three billion people, half of total population of the world, live in cities. It is estimated that in the forthcoming twenty–five years, two billion more people will settle in urban lands. Essentially most of these devastating changes will occur in developing countries, both in terms of the total global urban population as well as increased percentage of the individual country’s population living in urban areas. For many developing countries, the urban population is al...
LINEAR CONTACT ALGORITHM FOR RIGID-PLASTIC FINITE-ELEMENT SIMULATION
TEKKAYA, AE; SEN, A (1992-12-01)
The rigid-plastic finite element analysis of metal forming processes is known to be much more efficient and stable than the elastic-plastic one. This efficiency results from the absence of kinematical nonlinearities in the formulation. Contact algorithms used in rigid-plastic models must agree with this fact, otherwise the efficiency can be damaged seriously.
Contrasting policies and experiences of asylum seekers in Turkey
Manap-Kırmızıgül, Çiğdem; Kalaycıoğlu, Hediye Sibel; Department of Sociology (2008)
The purpose of this thesis is to describe the asylum seekers that reside in Turkey temporarily, from their own standpoint and from the viewpoint of workers and representatives working in the agencies and institutes involved in the field. This work focuses on the inconveniences experienced by asylum seekers and refugees during their stay in Turkey and the reasons of these inconveniences, in the context of social exclusion. The research for this thesis is based on the analysis of the in-depth interviews that ...
Biological decay and its control by biomineralisation in calcareous stones
Üstünkaya, Meltem Cemre; Saltık, Emine Nevin; Department of Archaeometry (2008)
Biodeterioration has an important role in weathering of historical materials. Natural stone materials become vulnerable to physical and chemical changes in outdoor conditions, favouring the biological growth. In this study, biodeterioration on calcareous stones and its control by biomineralisation were studied on limestones from Nemrut Mount Monument and marbles from Pessinous Archaeological Site. For qualitative and quantitative detection of biological activity fluorescein diacetate (FDA) method that was d...
