The Weapon Target Assignment (WTA) problem is the problem of assigning weapons to threats with the objective of minimizing the expected survival value of threats. On a real battlefield, the problem must be solved in quite short time, i.e., real-time. Considering combinatorial complexity of the problem and the strict time constraint, a fuzzy decision maker (FDM) is proposed as an alternative in helping commanders to decide on proper WTA. The idea is to build a FDM for a given data set using an extended grid partitioning based on sensitivity analysis of the input variables. The proposed decision maker is implemented and then tested with a number of randomly sampled WTA instances on realistic scenarios. The proposed system has a satisfactory performance. © 2011 IFAC.

A hierarchical fuzzy decision maker for the Weapon Target Assignment
Şahin, M. Alper; Leblebicioğlu, Mehmet Kemal (2011-01-01)
The Weapon Target Assignment problem is the problem of assigning weapons to threats with the objective of minimizing the expected survival value of threats. In this work, a Hierarchical Fuzzy Decision Maker is considered as an alternative decision-aid system for the Weapon Target Assignment. Thus, a novel procedure is proposed to identify Hierarchical Fuzzy Decision Makers such that entire hierarchy satisfies a desired approximation performance even with a strict constraint on the size of rule base. The ide...
A Standard Expert System For Weapon Target Assignment Problem
Sahin, M. Alper; Leblebicioğlu, Mehmet Kemal (2009-07-16)
Weapon target assignment (WTA) problem is the problem of assigning weapons to targets with the objective of minimizing the expected damage of targets. In this work, a standard expert system is proposed for the particular WTA problem. The idea is to build expert system using grid partitioning over a training set The proposed system is implemented and tested with a number of randomly generated WTA instances. The proposed system has a satisfactory performance.
Approximating the optimal mapping for weapon target assignment by fuzzy reasoning
Sahin, Mehmet Alper; Leblebicioğlu, Mehmet Kemal (2014-01-10)
Weapon target assignment is a weapon assignment problem with the objective of minimizing the expected survival value of targets. This problem must be quickly solved on the battlefield (i.e., in real-time). Considering the combined complexity and the strict time constraints, a fuzzy decision maker is proposed as an alternative to aid commanders in deciding on proper weapon assignments. The concept builds a fuzzy decision maker for a given data set by using extended grid partitioning based on a sensitivity an...
A pursuit evasion game between a missile and an aircraft
Şahin, Keziban Didem; Leblebicioğlu, Kemal; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2002)
In this thesis an intelligent mechanism is found to help the pilot of an aircraft under missile threat in making decisions to evade from the missile. To make the system realistic, flight simulations for both aircraft and missile are designed and a pursuit evasion game between them is created. In this system, capabilities of the aircraft and the missile are improved both. Flight simulations are made of three main components. These are the dynamic model of the vehicle, its guidance and control units. In this ...
Tracking short-range ballistic targets
Acar, Recep Serdar; Demirekler, Mübeccel; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2011)
The trajectories of ballistic targets are determined significantly by the characteristics that are specific to them. In this thesis, these characteristics are presented and a set of algorithms in order to track short-range ballistic targets are given. Firstly, motion and measurement models for the ballistic targets are formed and then four different filtering techniques are built on these models which are the extended Kalman filter, the unscented Kalman filter, the particle filter and the marginalized parti...
