Weapon target assignment (WTA) problem is the problem of assigning weapons to targets with the objective of minimizing the expected damage of targets. In this work, a standard expert system is proposed for the particular WTA problem. The idea is to build expert system using grid partitioning over a training set The proposed system is implemented and tested with a number of randomly generated WTA instances. The proposed system has a satisfactory performance.

Approximating the optimal mapping for weapon target assignment by fuzzy reasoning
Sahin, Mehmet Alper; Leblebicioğlu, Mehmet Kemal (2014-01-10)
Weapon target assignment is a weapon assignment problem with the objective of minimizing the expected survival value of targets. This problem must be quickly solved on the battlefield (i.e., in real-time). Considering the combined complexity and the strict time constraints, a fuzzy decision maker is proposed as an alternative to aid commanders in deciding on proper weapon assignments. The concept builds a fuzzy decision maker for a given data set by using extended grid partitioning based on a sensitivity an...
A hierarchical fuzzy decision maker for the Weapon Target Assignment
Şahin, M. Alper; Leblebicioğlu, Mehmet Kemal (2011-01-01)
The Weapon Target Assignment problem is the problem of assigning weapons to threats with the objective of minimizing the expected survival value of threats. In this work, a Hierarchical Fuzzy Decision Maker is considered as an alternative decision-aid system for the Weapon Target Assignment. Thus, a novel procedure is proposed to identify Hierarchical Fuzzy Decision Makers such that entire hierarchy satisfies a desired approximation performance even with a strict constraint on the size of rule base. The ide...
Rule-based Weapon Target Assignment on the battlefield
Şahin, M. Alper; Leblebicioğlu, Mehmet Kemal (2011-01-01)
The Weapon Target Assignment (WTA) problem is the problem of assigning weapons to threats with the objective of minimizing the expected survival value of threats. On a real battlefield, the problem must be solved in quite short time, i.e., real-time. Considering combinatorial complexity of the problem and the strict time constraint, a fuzzy decision maker (FDM) is proposed as an alternative in helping commanders to decide on proper WTA. The idea is to build a FDM for a given data set using an extended grid ...
A genetic algorithm approach to the artillery target assignment problem
Sapaz, Burçin; Toroslu, İsmail Hakkı; Üçoluk, Göktürk (2010-11-12)
In this work a new assignment problem with the name "Artillery Target Assignment Problem (ATAP)" is defined. ATAP is about assigning artillery guns to targets at different time instances while some objective functions are to be optimized. Since an assignment made for any time instance effect the value of the shooting ATAP is harder than the classical assignment problem. For two variations of ATAP genetic algorithm solutions with customized representations and genetic operators are developed and presented. ©...
Automatic small target detection in synthetic infrared images
YARDIMCI, Ozan; Ulusoy, İlkay (2017-04-11)
Automatic detection of targets from far distances is a very challenging problem. Background clutter and small target size are the main difficulties which should be solved while reaching a high detection performance as well as a low computational load. The pre-processing, detection and post-processing approaches are very effective on the final results. In this study, first of all, various methods in the literature were evaluated separately for each of these stages using the simulated test scenarios. Then, a ...
