Equivalent Discrete Damping Inserts for Laminated Plates

1981-4-6
A method has been developed to represent the damping of a fully coated or a multi-layer plate by an equivalent discrete damping insert. The method makes it possible to compare the effectiveness of a layer damping treatment with that of an external damping insert at a given resonant frequency. This is achieved without computing the response of any of the damped systems. A fully coated plate is analyzed using both the conventional modal method and the equivalent damper concept developed in this work. The results are then compared to verify the suggested method.
