Evaluation of tension lap splices for code provisions
Canbay, Erdem (2012-09-01)
Six real-size beams were tested in order to examine the reliability of tension lap splices for the minimum requirements of clear cover, spacing between bars and transverse reinforcement. The beams were prepared in accordance with the minimum provisions of the American Concrete Institute building code requirements for structural concrete (ACI 318-08) and the Turkish standards on requirements for design and construction of reinforced concrete structures (TS 500). Results showed that all beams prepared in acco...
Evaluation of Terahertz Channel in Data Centers
MOLLAHASANİ, Shahram; Onur, Ertan (2016-04-29)
Designing data center network topologies with the objective of minimizing cost, increasing bisection bandwidth and decreasing latency is a difficult problem. The solutions in the literature mainly concentrate on wired networks and minimizing wiring costs thereof. Only a few proposals address the benefit of employing wireless communications in data centers due to spectrum and bandwidth limitations of current wireless communication technologies. By using terahertz communication in a data center as a complemen...
Evaluation of Scour Risk at Foundations of River Bridges
Yanmaz, Ali Melih; Çalamak, Melih (2016-07-01)
River bridges are exposed to more inconvenient conditions due to the structure-flow interaction compared to bridges having no contact with flow. Therefore, one of the most important components of the bridge failure risk is the risk induced by soil-flow interaction. In this study, the uncertainties of the hydrological and hydraulic parameters affecting the scouring around bridge piers are examined using appropriate probability density functions. In the analyses, the uncertainties involved in the temporal var...
Evaluation of microplastics removal efficiency at a wastewater treatment plant discharging to the Sea of Marmara
Vardar, Suat; Onay, Turgut T.; Demirel, Burak; Kıdeyş, Ahmet Erkan (2021-11-15)
Levels, composition and fate of microplastics (MPs) were investigated along different compartments of a secondary wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) with nutrient removal on the northern Sea of Marmara coast (Istanbul, Turkey). When all samples were combined, fibers were found to be the most dominant particles, followed by hard fragments. 500–1000 μm and 1000–2000 μm were the most common size ranges for wastewater and sludge, respectively. Rate of removal differed for sizes and shapes of the particles combin...
Evaluation of liquefaction in Karasu River floodplain after the October 23, 2011, Van (Turkey) earthquake
Akin, Mutluhan; Özvan, Ali; Akin, Muge K.; Topal, Tamer (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2013-12-01)
The eastern shore of Lake Van was shaken by a powerful earthquake (M (w) 7.2) on October 23, 2011. The epicenter of the earthquake was located at about 30 km north of the Van Province, which is one of the main cities in the Eastern Anatolia. The Van Province and particularly its largest district Ercis were adversely affected by the earthquake, and unfortunately, a total of 600 people lost their lives. Besides severe constructional damages and building collapses, ground deformations were widespread at many l...
