METU Players started their work in 1960 in the barracks behind the Turkish Grand National Assembly, the old campus of METU, under the name METU Players, and in the 6th year of its establishment, they organized the first of the festivals that later became traditional, under the name ŞENLİK '66. The play was first performed in 1960; He was sentenced to death row (Hollwarthy Hall, Robert Middlemass). The festival, which hosted amateur and local theater groups until 1989, was named "Amateur Theaters Festival". The community, which was active until the September 12 Coup, was closed in 1980 and reopened in 1982. METU Players, who restarted their training, also held ŞENLİK 82 in the same year. The event, which has become a tradition, was revived in 1989 under the name "METU Theaters Festival" with theater works called "Şenlik'89". The community has been working as METU Players within the Directorate of Cultural Affairs since 1987. METU Theater Festival, which has hosted many artists since the Amateur Theater Festival, is held in the METU Architecture Amphitheater in the spring of each year.
