The European Union (EU) stands as a key player in the realm of environmental and climate change policies, boasting a longstanding commitment. The EU's pioneering role took a transformative turn on December 11, 2019, with the introduction of the "European Green Deal," (EGD) marking a significant shift towards environmental sustainability. Despite the absence of a ruptured relationship between the EU and Türkiye, their association has not witnessed a consistent upward trajectory. This thesis aims to explore the prospect of fortifying the green partnership between Türkiye and the EU by implementing the EGD. Our study focuses on exploring how the EGD can contribute to the enhanced strength and depth of the strategic relationship between Türkiye and the EU, extending beyond the accession process. The research examines the historical development of environmental policies in the EU, the corresponding evolution of Türkiye’s environmental policies, and the impact of the EGD on Türkiye’s environmental strategies. Furthermore, the study investigates the potential effects of the EGD on Türkiye-EU cooperation, encompassing joint initiatives and projects aimed at promoting climate change resilience.
