In Turkey, following the financial innovations of the 1980s, currency substitution gained new dimensions. In this paper, it is argued that the conventional money stock definitions no longer represent the "total liquidity" in the system and therefore there is a need for redefining "liquidity". Some alternative measures of liquidity are suggested.
