Performance parameters of wireless virtual private network
İkiz, Süheyla; Baykal, Nazife; Department of Information Systems (2006)
As the use of PC's and handheld devices increase, it expected that wireless communication would also grow. One of the major concerns in wireless communication is the security. Virtual Private Network (VPN) is the most secure solution that ensures three main aspect of security: authentication, accountability and encryption can use in wireless networks. Most VPNs have built on IP Security Protocol (IPSec) to support end-to-end secure data transmission. IPSec is a wellunderstood and widely used mechanism for w...
Belief propagation decoding of polar codes under factor graph permutations
Peker, Ahmet Gökhan; Yücel, Melek Diker; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2018)
Polar codes, introduced by Arıkan, are linear block codes that can achieve the capacity of symmetric binary-input discrete memoryless channels with low encoding and decoding complexity. Polar codes of block length N are constructed by channel polarization method, which consists of channel combining and splitting operations to obtain N polarized subchannels from N copies of binary-input discrete memoryless channels. As N grows, symmetric channel capacities of the polarized subchannels converge to either 0 or...
Exchange rate pass through into the export and import prices of Turkey
Abalı, Elif Ege; Akbostancı Özkazanç, Elif; Department of Economics (2004)
In this study, exchange rate pass-through into the export prices and import prices is analyzed separately at the disaggregate level. The study also attempts to differentiate exchange rate pass-through in the short-run and long-run. To analyze pass-through in the short-run, dynamic modeling is used. To analyze pass-through in the long-run, cointegration analysis is conducted. Estimation results show that exchange rate pass-through into the import prices is complete even at the disaggregate level. However, th...
Securing freedom of movement of persons in the EU : a governmentality perspective
Arcan, Özge; Ertuğrul, Kürşad; Department of Political Science and Public Administration (2010)
This thesis examines how the right of free movement of persons is governed through surveillance databases represented as security measures by applying the governmentality perspective. In order to do that, the study focuses on the relationship between freedom of movement, security and surveillance databases in the European Union such as Schengen Information System (SIS), European Dactylographic System (EURODAC) and the Europol Computer System (TECS). The main argument of the thesis is to analyze the role of ...
Reformulation of the concept of understanding in Heidegger's and Gadamer's hermeneutic theories
Günok, Emrah; Ergüden, Akın; Department of Philosophy (2004)
The goal of the present dissertation is to display the reconstruction of the concept of understanding which has down through the history of philosophy been used as the synonym of knowing. Hence, my main intention is to focus on the Heidegger2s and Gadamer2s critique of epistemological conception of understanding and their reevaluation of this concept in terms of ontology. Finally, I will try to examine the similarities and dissimilarities between the philosophers and try to call attention to their emphasis ...
