Neural-network-based process controller design and on-line application to fluidised bed combustion
Altug, S; Tulunay, E (1996-08-01)
Intelligent on-line control has been increasingly popular in the past decade. In this paper, a neural-network-based controller utilising a modified error term in the backpropagation algorithm is presented for the purpose of on-line control of the nonlinear time-varying fluidised bed combustion (FBC) process. The aim of the modification of the error term was to improve the controller performance by enabling the neural network to perform a 'negative hysteresis' action. The general design steps, alterations in...
Neural network based beamforming for linear and cylindrical array applications
Güreken, Murat; Dural Ünver, Mevlüde Gülbin; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2009)
In this thesis, a Neural Network (NN) based beamforming algorithm is proposed for real time target tracking problem. The algorithm is performed for two applications, linear and cylindrical arrays. The linear array application is implemented with equispaced omnidirectional sources. The influence of the number of antenna elements and the angular seperation between the incoming signals on the performance of the beamformer in the linear array beamformer is studied, and it is observed that the algorithm improves...

Neural network based optical network restoration with multiple classes of traffic
Gokisik, D; Bilgen, Semih (2003-01-01)
Neural-network-based optical network restoration is illustrated over an example in which multiple classes of traffic are considered. Over the pre-planned primary and backup capacity, optimal routing and wavelength assignment is carried out. In case of a network failure, protection routes and optimum flow values on these protection routes are extracted from a previously trained feed-forward neural network which is distributed over the optical data communications network.
Neural Network Model to Support International Market Entry Decisions
Dikmen Toker, İrem; Birgönül, Mustafa Talat (American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), 2004-02-01)
Bidding for international construction projects is a critical decision for companies that aim to position themselves in the global construction market. Determination of attractive projects and markets where the competitive advantage of a company is high requires extensive environmental scanning, forecasting, and learning from the experience of competitors in international markets. In this paper, a neuronet model has been developed as a decision support tool that can classify international projects with resp...
