Mineralogy, chemistry and potential utilization of clays from coal deposits in the Kutahya province, Western Turkey
Tuerkmenoglu, Asuman Guenal; Yavuz-Isik, Nurdan (Elsevier BV, 2008-12-01)
Kutahya graben is one of the largest E-W trending grabens of Western Turkey consisting of Tavsanli and Seyitomer sub-basins filled with Neogene continental deposits. These deposits contain economic lignite seams and the clay samples investigated in this study are closely related to the commercial lignite deposits since they occur underlying or overlying the major coal seams and also intercalated with them.
Geochemical constraints on the Cenozoic, OIB-type alkaline volcanic rocks of NW Turkey: Implications for mantle sources and melting processes
ALDANMAZ, ERCAN; KÖPRÜBAŞI, NEZİHİ; GÜRER, ÖMER FEYZİ; Kaymakcı, Nuretdin; Gourgaud, Alan (Elsevier BV, 2006-01-01)
The volcanic province of North-West Turkey contains a number of intra-continental alkaline volcanic eruption sequences formed along the localized extensional basins developed in relation with the Late Cenozoic extensional processes. The volcanic suite comprises the extracted melt products of adiabatic decompression melting of the mantle that are represented by small-volume intra-continental plate volcanic rocks of alkaline olivine basalts and basanites with compositions representative of mantle-derived, pri...
Mineral mapping in Oymaağaç (Beypazarı)-Ankara) Granitoid by remote sensing techniques
Pekesin, Burcu Fatma; Toprak, Vedat; Department of Geological Engineering (2005)
The aim of this study is to extract information about mineral distribution and percentages of Oymaagaç granitoid (Beypazari-Ankara) by using remote sensing techniques. Two methods are applied during the studies which are spectral analysis and Crosta techniques. Spectral measurements are done for fresh and weathered samples collected at 32 locations. Mineral percentages are calculated using spectral mixture analysis for each sample by considering main, accessory and secondary mineral content of granodiorite....
Mineralogical and sorption characteristics of Ankara Clay as a landfill liner
Sezer, GA; Turkmenoglu, AG; Göktürk, Emine Hale (Elsevier BV, 2003-05-01)
Mineralogical and sorption capacity characteristics of Ankara Clay, which is widespread around the Ankara region, Turkey, have been studied for the purpose of its potential use as a landfill liner. This clay is Pliocene in age and was deposited in a fluvial environment. Mineralogically it consists mainly of illite, smectite, chlorite and kaolinite minerals. The non- clay minerals, quartz, feldspars, calcite and Fe-Ti oxides are detected. Its cation exchange capacity (CEC) is determined as 41 meq/100 g using...
Hydrothermal alteration products in the vicinity of the Ahirozu kaolin deposits, Mihaliccik-Eskisehir, Turkey
Sayit, Isil Omeroglu; Günal Türkmenoğlu, Asuman; Sayin, S. Ali; Demirci, Cengiz (Mineralogical Society, 2018-06-01)
The mineralogy, texture and composition of rocks associated with the kaolin deposits in the Ahirozu-Hamidiye-Ucbasli area, SE of Mihaliccik, Eskisehir, Turkey, were investigated. In the study area, Triassic, blue-green schists and serpentinized ultramafic rocks are exposed. Kaolinization occurs at the contact between a Triassic granitic intrusion and metamorphic rocks. Textural and mineralogical characteristics were identified by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-r...
