Effect of microwave on fluidized bed drying of macaroni beads
Goksu, EI; Şümnü, Servet Gülüm; Esin, A (2005-02-01)
Fluidized bed and microwave assisted fluidized bed drying of macaroni beads were studied using a household microwave oven. Macaroni beads (2.4 +/- 0.08 mm diameter), 200 g/batch were dried from about 20% to 12% moisture content. In the experiments with the fluidized bed three air temperatures: 50, 60 and 70 C at an air velocity of 2.3 m/s and in those with the microwave oven two power levels: 2.1 and 3.5 W/g dry solid were used. Drying rate increased with the air temperature and microwave power. The effecti...
A fractographic study on toughening of epoxy resin using ground tyre rubber
Kaynak, Cevdet; Akovali, G. (2001-01-01)
This study is a fractographic examination of epoxy resin modified with scrap car tyre regrinds used as toughening phase. Five different surface treatment techniques, used to improve the compatibility at the interface between the rubber particles and the epoxy matrix, were: oxygen plasma, two silane coupling agents, acrylic acid and acrylic acid/benzoylperoxide mixture. Rubber parts of ground scrap car tyres with a size range of 355-500 mum after surface treatment were mixed with epoxy. This mixture was pour...
Effect of lead core heating on the seismic performance of bridges isolated with LRB in near-fault zones
Ozdemir, Gokhan; Dicleli, Murat (2012-11-01)
In this paper, the effect of lead core heating and associated strength deterioration on the seismic response of bridges isolated with lead rubber bearings (LRB) is investigated as a function of the characteristics of the isolator and near fault ground motions with forward rupture directivity effect. Furthermore, the ability of bounding analyses to provide a design envelope for maximum isolator force and maximum isolator displacement is verified. For this purpose, a series of nonlinear dynamic analyses are c...
The synthesis and sodium-silver ion exchange of sodalites
Acar, Aybar Can; Culfaz, A (2003-05-01)
Aluminosilicate sodalites of three different types-chlorosodalite, basic sodalite, and oxalate sodalite-have been synthesized in their sodium forms using hydrothermal synthesis. The syntheses were investigated in terms of their relative rates of crystallization and final crystallinities using powder X-ray diffraction. These sodalites were subsequently loaded with silver by aqueous ion exchange. The exchange was studied primarily by monitoring the solution phase. Rate of exchange and equilibrium behavior hav...
Effects of Mixing Protocols on Impact Modified Poly(lactic acid) Layered Silicate Nanocomposites
Baouz, Touffik; Acik, Eda; Rezgui, Farouk; Yılmazer, Ülkü (2015-02-20)
Poly(lactic acid)/2 wt % organomodified montmorillonite (PLA/OMMT) was toughened by an ethylene-methyl acrylate-glycidyl methacrylate (E-MA-GMA) rubber. The ternary nanocomposites were prepared by melt compounding in a twin screw extruder using four different addition protocols of the components of the nanocomposite and varying the rubber content in the range of 5-20 wt %. It was found that both clay dispersion and morphology were influenced by the blending method as detected by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and ...
