Sequence stratigraphic architecture of Mut basin along ramp to reefal margin transition and its diagenetic imprint
Derman, H. Armağan; Norman, Teoman; Department of Geological Engineering (2003)
The whole Mediterranean was a site of carbonate deposition during Miocene. Unlike other Miocene basins in the Mediteranean, the importance of Mut Basin lies in its tectonically undisturbed nature that provides excellent exposures to study sequence stratigraphic architecture and carbonate sedimentology. Opening of Mut Basin began during Oligocene; carbonate deposition started during Early Miocene. The pre-Miocene rocks are characterized by (from bottom to top), 1. ophiolites and Mesozoic limestones, 2. Eocen...
Age and paleoenvironmental reconstruction of partially remagnetized lacustrine sedimentary rocks (Oligocene Aktoprak basin, central Anatolia, Turkey)
Meijers, Maud M; Strauss, Becky E.; ÖZKAPTAN, MURAT; Feinberg, JM; Mulch, Andreas; Whitney, Donna; Kaymakcı, Nuretdin (2016-03-01)
The age and paleoenvironmental record of lacustrine deposits in the Aktoprak basin of south-central Turkey provides information about the evolution of topography, including the timing of development of an orographic rain shadow caused by uplift of the mountain ranges fringing the Central Anatolian Plateau. New magnetostratigraphy-based age estimates, in combination with existing biostratigraphic ages, suggest that the partially remagnetized Kurtulmu Tepe section of the basin is Chattian (Upper Oligocene). T...
Age and Geochemical Constraints on Formation of Fault-related Late Quaternary Carbonate Veins from Southern Turkey
Ünal İmer, Ezgi; Uysal, Tonguç; Dirik, Ramazan Kadir; İmer, Ali; Ring, Uwe (null; 2018-08-17)
Combined U-series dating and high-resolution geochemical analyses of co-seismic carbonate veins offer an invaluable opportunity to document young (<1 Ma) earthquake activity and for tracing origins of associated fluids. In this study, we analysed a total of 23 samples of fault-related carbonate veins and slickenfibered calcites collected from two separate SW– S-trending fault zones developed near Anamur and Gazipaşa areas in Southern Turkey. Microtexturally the carbonate veins mainly comprise medium- to coa...
Age and tectonomagmatic setting of the Eocene Copler-Kabatas magmatic complex and porphyry-epithermal Au deposit, East Central Anatolia, Turkey
İmer, Ali; Creaser, Robert A. (2013-06-01)
The Copler epithermal Au deposit and related subeconomic porphyry Cu-Au deposit is hosted by the middle Eocene Copler-KabataAY magmatic complex in central eastern Anatolia. The intrusive rocks of the complex were emplaced into Late Paleozoic-Mesozoic metamorphosed sedimentary basement rocks near the northeastern margin of the Tauride-Anatolide Block. Igneous biotite from two samples of the magmatic complex yielded Ar-40/Ar-39 plateau ages of 43.75 +/- 0.26 Ma and 44.19 +/- 0.23, whereas igneous hornblende f...
