Design of a Re-configurable dual frequency microstrip antenna with integrated RF MEMS switches
Onat, Sinon; Ünlü, Mehmet; Alatan, Lale; Demir, Şimşek; Akın, Tayfun (2005-07-08)
The complete design of a re-configurable dual frequency antenna structure, including its integrated RF MEMS switches and their actuation lines together with a CPW feed, is introduced. The number of switches used in the inset is decreased compared to the hybrid design we presented previously (Onat, S. et al., IEEE Int. Antennas and Propag. Symp., vol.2, p.1812-15, 2004). Instead of utilizing available RF MEMS switches, new switches suitable for this application are designed. Two different switch configuratio...
Design of a wideband beam scanning Rotman lens array
Tekbaş, Damla Duygu; Birand, Mehmet Tuncay; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2012)
The design, manufacturing techniques and measurements for wideband Rotman lens are presented. Different design approaches are explained in detail. A step-by-step procedure followed through the design process of a Rotman lens is given. The design equations are derived for both the parallel-plate/waveguide and microstrip/stripline Rotman lens versions. Effects of the design parameters on the lens shape and performance are investigated. A microstrip Rotman lens operating in 8 GHz – 16 GHz frequency band is des...
Design of a MEMS based hydraulic pressure sensor
Göreke, Utku; Azgın, Kıvanç; Beyaz, Mustafa İlker; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2016)
This dissertation presents a novel technique for detection of hydraulic pressure by using a MEMS resonant sensor. Proposed sensor utilizes a double ended tuning fork (DETF) resonator. In the literature tuning forks are used for measurement of the deflection of a diaphragm. However, in this study, a tuning fork is configured to lay in orthogonal direction with a diaphragm of which center point deflection is being measured. Upon application of pressure, center deflection of the diaphragm induces an axial comp...
Design of a reconnaissance and surveillance robot
Özdemir, Erman Çağan; Söylemez, Eres; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2013)
Scope of this thesis is to design a man portable robot which is capable of carrying out reconnaissance and surveillance missions. Due to design needs, the study is mainly focused on throw impact damage mitigation and hopping potential with carbon dioxide gas. Also, electromechanical design of the robot is carried out according to the design specifications.
Design of an X-band 3-bit RF MEMS constant phase shifter
Kuzubaşlı, Ahmet; Akın, Tayfun; Demir, Şimşek; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2016)
This thesis presents a 3-bit 180° constant phase shifter design implementing Co-Planar Waveguide (CPW) and RF MEMS variable capacitors with ±1.8% accuracy at 10 GHz and ±5.8% maximum peak error between 9-11 GHz. The phase shifter with minimum phase errors is determined by considering exemplary circuit simulations of different phase shifter types designed with a novel in-house RF MEMS fabrication process [1] parameters. Due to its wide-band characteristics and CPW compatibility, the selected topology is the ...
