Evaluation of computer education and instructional technology programs: Students' and faculty members' perception

This study evaluated Computer Education and Instructional Technology Education Programs of Ankara, Gazi, Hacettepe and Middle East Technical Universities, in Ankara Turkey, through students' and faculty members' perceptions. The specific themes such as students' charactersitics, departments' goals, curriculum, quality, faculty members, resources, instructional and evaluation methods, weaknesses and powerful sides and understanding of instructional technology were investigated in this study. 352 students and 19 faculty members from Computer Education and Instructional Technology Departments of Ankara, Gazi, Hacettepe and iiiMiddle East Technical Universities participated in the study. The data collected through the questionnaire and the interview schedule. The data gathered were analyzed through descriptive statistics and content analysis. The results of the study indicated that there is a need for revision of Computer Education and Instructional Technology Departments' programs. The goal and curriculum of the departments should be clarified; since these departments are technology based, they are in need of continuous improvements; and finally faculty resources of the departments should be increased.
