Properties of biodegradable and biocompatible poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) and its copolymers
Öz, Mustafa Kemal; Bayramlı,Erdal; Department of Chemistry (1999)
Properties of blends prepared from surface-modified low-density polyethylene and poly(vinyl chloride)
Akovali, G; Torun, TT (Wiley, 1997-03-01)
Improvement of adhesion between low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) in their blends was attempted by plasma modification of their surfaces. A series of different plasma treatments, vinyl chloride or carbon tetrachloride plasma for PE and acetylene plasma for PVC, were employed. In addition, an oligomeric copolymer of PE-VC was also tested in the blend. After modification, different degrees of improvement were obtained in mechanical properties, ranging from slight for acetylene pla...
Properties of blended cements with thermally activated kaolin
Arikan, Metin; Sobolev, Konstantin; Ertuen, Tomris; Yeginobali, Asim; Turker, Pelin (Elsevier BV, 2009-01-01)
Kaolin, one of the materials of major importance for the ceramic and paper industry, is also used in the construction industry as a raw material for the production of white cement clinker and, in the form of metakaolin, as an artificial pozzolanic additive for concrete. Metakaolin is a vital component of high-performance and architectural concrete; however, its application in regular concrete is very limited due to relatively high production costs. This report evaluates the performance of a low-cost metakao...
CHARACTERISTICS OF FLAXSEED OIL FROM TWO DIFFERENT FLAX PLANTS
Zhang, Zhen-Shan; Wang, Li-Jun; Lİ, Dong; Li, Shu-Jun; Özkan, Necati (2011-01-01)
Flaxseed oil is rich in linolenic acid, and being accepted in diet by more and more people. The characteristics of flaxseed oil from two different varieties, namely fibre-flax seed and oil-flax seed, were evaluated. It was shown that fatty acids of flaxseed oil were mainly constituted by linolenic, oleic, linoleic, stearic, and palmitic acids, and the oil-flax seed oil contained more linolenic acid (58.03%) compared with the fibre-flax seed oil (47.37%). The fibre-flax seed oil showed a higher absorbance at...
Properties and hydration of cementitious systems containing low, moderate and high amounts of natural zeolites
Uzal, Burak; Turanlı, Lutfullah; Department of Civil Engineering (2007)
The extent of the benefits provided by use of SCMs in cementitious systems increases as their percentage amounts in total binder increases. However, the proportion of SCMs in cementitious systems is limited, especially for natural pozzolans, by some factors such as increase in water requirement and decrease in rate of strength development. Therefore investigations are needed to increase the amount of natural pozzolans in blended cements or in concrete as much as possible without decreasing their performance...
