This thesis describes the system of submitting observations envisaged in Article 23 of the Protocol on the Statute of the European Court of Justice. The thesis seeks to illustrate and criticize the utilization of the system enshrined in Article 23 by the member states of the European Union. The experience of the United Kingdom is analyzed by examining the preliminary ruling judgments that the government of the United Kingdom has submitted observations in order to describe the system and demonstrate its application by a member state of the European Union.

An investigation of the principles of laboratory-scale particle-bed comminution
Cimilli, Hande; Hoşten, Çetin; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2008)
The objective of this thesis is to investigate the principles of laboratory-scale particle bed comminution in a piston-die-press. The feed materials used in this investigation are quartz and calcite which were stage-crushed and dry screened to produce 3.35 x 2.36, 2.36 x 1.7, 1.7 x 1.18, 1.18 x 0.85, and minus 0.85mm size fractions. First, these narrow size fractions (excluding minus 0.85mm fraction) were comminuted under different pressures to determine the baseline for energy utilization. Then, these size...
The role of the european court of justice in the integration process of the european union
Güner, Selin Ece; Aşçıoğlu Öz, Gamze; Department of Political Science and Public Administration (2005)
This thesis analyses the role of the European Court of Justice in the process of European integration. The role of the Court of Justice as an important supranational institution is discussed by taking into account various decisions of the Court that established the fundamental principles of the European Union Law. The thesis also analyses the contribution of the Court from the perspective of its interactions with the other actors within the EU. In this framework, the thesis will seek to answer such question...
Adaptation of turbulence models to a navier-stokes solver
Gürdamar, Emre; Aksel, Mehmet Haluk; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2005)
This thesis presents the implementation of several two-equation turbulence models into a finite difference, two- and three-dimensional Navier-Stokes Solver. Theories of turbulence modeling and the historical development of these theories are briefly investigated. Turbulence models that are defined by two partial differential equations, based on k-? and k-? models, having different correlations, constants and boundary conditions are selected to be adapted into the base solver. The basic equations regarding t...
Large deformation analysis of shells under impulsive loading
Evcim, Mehmet; Darendeliler, Haluk; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2010)
In this thesis large deformation behavior of shell structures under high intensity transient loading conditions is investigated by means of finite element method. For this purpose an explicit finite element program is developed with interactive user interface. The developed program deals with geometric and material nonlinearities which stem from large deformation elastic - plastic behavior. Results of the developed code are compared with the experimental data taken from the literature and simulation results...
Kinematic and force analyses of overconstrained mechanisms
Üstün, Deniz; Özgören, Mustafa Kemal; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2011)
This thesis comprises a study on the kinematic and force analyses of the overconstrained mechanisms. The scope of the overconstrained mechanisms is too wide and difficult to handle. Therefore, the study is restricted to the planar overconstrained mechanisms. Although the study involves only the planar overconstrained mechanisms, the investigated methods and approaches could be extended to the spatial overconstrained mechanisms as well. In this thesis, kinematic analysis is performed in order to investigate ...
