The effect of different aging treatments on fatigue crack growth behavior of AA6013 aluminum alloy was investigated. C(T) (Compact Tension) specimens were prepared in L-T and T-L direction for fatigue crack growth tests. Samples were in T651 as received, T42 which is solution heat treated at 538 ºC for 90 minutes, water quenched and aged in room temperature for 96 hours, and one group of samples were overaged at 245 ºC for 12 hours after T42 condition was achieved. Hardness and conductivity measurements were achieved for all conditions after the heat treatments. Fatigue crack growth tests were performed at as received condition T651, T42 and 245 ºC aged samples in laboratory air with sinusoidal loading of stress ratio R=0.1 and at a frequency of 1 Hz. The highest fatigue crack growth resistance is observed for T651 T-L and 245 ºC overaged L-T condition.

Effect of retrogression and reaging heat treatment on corrosion fatigue crack growth behavior of AA7050 alloy
Akgün, Nevzat; Gürbüz, Rıza; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2004)
The effect of retrogression and reaging heat treatment on corrosion fatigue crack growth behavior on AA7050 T73651 aluminum alloy is investigated. CT (Compact Tension) specimens are prepared in LS direction for fatigue crack growth tests . Samples are solution heat treated at 477 °C and aged at 120 °C for 24 h (T6 condition). After that, samples are retrogressed at 200 °C for times of 1, 5, 30, 55 and 80 minutes in a circulating oil bath. Then, samples are re-aged at 120 °C for 24 h (T6 condition). Hardness...
Microstructural and elecrochemical characterization of Ti-6A1-4V ELI alloy
Topçuoğlu, Melih; Aydınol, Mehmet Kadri; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2006)
In this study, the evolution of structure and the relationship between microstructure and corrosion behavior of the Ti-6Al-4V ELI (Extra Low Interstitial) alloy was investigated in Ringer’s solution at 37 ± 0.1 oC. Initially, different heat treatments were performed in order to obtain several microstructures which were; Widmanstätten α for furnace cooling (FC), basket-weave α for air cooling (AC), martensite (α') for water quenching (WQ) from 1060 oC, and aged martensite for ten hours at 500, 600, 700, 800,...
Investigation of the effect of orientation and heat treatment on the stress corrosion cracking susceptibility of 7050 aluminium alloy
Çevik, Gül; Doruk, Mustafa; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2004)
In the present work, the effect of variation in specimen orientation and heat treatment on the Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC) susceptibility of 7050 aluminum alloy was investigated in 3,5% NaCl solution and under freely corroding conditions. For this purpose, Constant Extension Rate Tests (CERT) was performed on precracked Compact Tension (CT) specimens and the Direct Current Potential Drop technique was applied to measure the crack lengths. In addition to crack length versus time curves, the relationship ...
Fatigue crack growth behaviour in aluminium alloy 7475 under different aging conditions
Gürbüz, Rıza (Informa UK Limited, 2001-12-01)
The effects of aging temperature and aging time on fatigue crack growth resistance have been studied for a 7475 (Al - Zn - Mg based) aluminium alloy. The alloy was tested in the underaged, peak aged, and overaged conditions after aging at 120 and 160 degreesC. Fatigue crack propagation tests were conducted in laboratory air using compact tension specimens in L-S orientation, under constant amplitude sinusoidal loading with an R ratio of zero. Results are discussed on the basis of resultant microstructures, ...
Synthesis and characterization of nickel based bulk amkorphous alloys
Arslan, Hülya; Mekhrabov, Amdulla O.; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2004)
The aim of this study is to synthesize and characterize new bulk amorphous alloys in the Ni- based systems. Theoretical studies on the basis of semi-empirical rules and the electronic theory of alloys in pseudopotential approximation has been provided in order to predict the impurity elements that will lead to an increase in the glass forming ability of Ni-based alloy systems. Glass forming ability of ten different compositions of alloys of Ni-Nb, Ni-Fe, Ni-B, Ni-Hf and Ni-Cr was simulated by using FORTRAN ...
