A P2P based failure detection model for distributed systems

Kavuklu, Celal
A comprehensive failure detection model is proposed to detect service failures in asynchronous distributed systems. The proposed model takes advantage of P2P technology to provide required functionality. When compared to similar studies in failure detection, the presented failure detection model is more autonomous in resolving service dependencies, embodies more flexibility in providing different failure detection functions (like unreliable failure detectors, membership services) and offers more security. A failure detection library is developed using JXTA P2P framework to show realization of such a model.

A systematic study of probabilistic aggregation strategies in swarm robotic systems
Soysal, Onur; Şahin, Erol; Department of Computer Engineering (2005)
In this study, a systematic analysis of probabilistic aggregation strategies in swarm robotic systems is presented. A generic aggregation behavior is proposed as a combination of four basic behaviors: obstacle avoidance, approach, repel, and wait. The latter three basic behaviors are combined using a three-state finite state machine with two probabilistic transitions among them. Two different metrics were used to compare performance of strategies. Through systematic experiments, how the aggregation performa...
A control system using behaviour hierarchies and neuro-fuzzy approach
Arslan, Dilek; Alpaslan, Ferda Nur; Department of Computer Engineering (2005)
In agent based systems, especially in autonomous mobile robots, modelling the environment and its changes is a source of problems. It is not always possible to effectively model the uncertainity and the dynamic changes in complex, real-world domains. Control systems must be robust to changes and must be able to handle these uncertainties to overcome this problem. In this study, a reactive behaviour based agent control system is modelled and implemented. The control system is tested in a navigation task usin...
Deploying and invoking secure web services over JXTA framework
Görgün, İlhami; Doğaç, Asuman; Department of Computer Engineering (2004)
Web services introduce a new paradigm for distributed computing, and the technology that it introduces constructs a new type of Web application. Web services can be described as any software that makes its discovery and invocation available over the Internet, and uses a standardized XML messaging system. The term peer-to-peer refers to a class of decentralized systems enabling the access of shared resources available on peers that are acting both as client and as server. In this work, a peer-to-peer approac...
An Approach for introducing a set of domain specific components
Yiğit, İbrahim Onuralp; Doğru, Ali Hikmet; Department of Computer Engineering (2015)
In this thesis, a preliminary methodology is proposed for the determination of a set of components to populate the domain model of a Software Product Line infrastructure. Software Product Line based approaches focus on the reusability of assets for a family of software products. For effective reuse, the definition of reusable assets in this thesis considers variability in a domain. The approach is based on variability specifications that is rooted in Feature Models and is reflected to a component modeling n...
A business rule approach to requirements traceability
Narmanlı, Murat; Doğru, Ali Hikmet; Department of Computer Engineering (2010)
In this thesis, a requirements traceability model is proposed in order to make efficient and effective change request impact analysis. The proposed model is a requirements – requirements traceability model. There are several researches regarding software requirements traceability problem. The main problem of these researches is that the proposed solutions can not be applied to software industry with affordable changes. However, current literature begins to see that describing all the software requirements i...
