In this study, results of a comparison on benchmark test problems are presented to investigate the performance of Primavera V.4.1 with its two resource allocation priority rules and MS Project 2003. Resource allocation capabilities of the packages are measured in terms of deviation from the upper bound of the minimum makespan. Resource constrained project scheduling problem instances are taken from PSPLIB which are generated under a factorial design from ProGen. Statistical tests are applied to the results for investigating the significance effectiveness of the parameters.

Two-sided assembly line balancing models and heuristics
Arıkan, Uğur; Kırca, Ömer; Department of Industrial Engineering (2009)
This study is focused on two-sided assembly line balancing problems of type-I and type-II. This problem is encountered in production environments where a two-sided assembly line is used to produce physically large products. For type-I problems, there is a specified production target for a fixed time interval and the objective is to reach this production capacity with the minimum assembly line length used. On the other hand, type-II problem focuses on reaching the maximum production level using a fixed assem...
A DEA-based approach to ranking multi-criteria alternatives
Tuncer, Ceren; Köksalan, Murat; Department of Industrial Engineering (2006)
This thesis addresses the problem of ranking multi-criteria alternatives. A Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA)-based approach, the Method of the Area of the Efficiency Score Graph (AES) is proposed. Rather than assessing the alternatives with respect to the fixed original alternative set as done in the existing DEA-based ranking methods, AES considers the change in the efficiency scores of the alternatives while reducing the size of the alternative set. Producing a final score for each alternative that account...
A comparison of data mining methods for prediction and classification types of quality problems
Anaklı, Zeynep; Anaklı, Zeynep; Department of Industrial Engineering (2009)
In this study, an Analytic Network Process (ANP) and Preference Ranking Organization MeTHod for Enrichment Evaluations (PROMETHEE) based approach is developed and used to compare overall performance of some commonly used classification and prediction data mining methods on quality improvement data, according to several decision criteria. Classification and prediction data mining (DM) methods are frequently used in many areas including quality improvement. Previous studies on comparison of performance of the...
A case study : improvement of component placement sequence of a turret style smt machine
Çengel, Mehmet Savaş; Kandiller, Levent; Department of Industrial Engineering (2006)
This study aims to improve component placement sequencing of a number of PCBs produced on a turret style SMT machine. After modeling the problem and having found that an optimal solution to the real PCB problem is hard to be achieved because of the concurrent behavior of the machine and the PCB design parameters, two heuristics are developed by oversimplifying the problem down to TSP. Performance of the heuristics and the lower bounds is evaluated by comparing the results with the optimal solution for two s...
Hybrid ranking approaches based on data envelopment analysis and outranking relations
Eryılmaz, Utkan; Karasakal, Esra; Department of Industrial Engineering (2006)
In this study two different hybrid ranking approaches based on data envelopment analysis and outranking relations for ranking alternatives are proposed. Outranking relations are widely used in Multicriteria Decision Making (MCDM) for ranking the alternatives and appropriate in situations when we have limited information on the preference structure of the decision maker. Yet to apply these methods DM should provide exact values for method parameters (weights, thresholds etc.) as well as basic information suc...
