With the enhancement of the Radio signal communication systems, Wi-Fi technology become a “de facto” standard used in Campus areas such as hospitals and universities. Besides being used as a data communication method, Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) is also used as a location tracking method. There are lots of studies enhancing the RSSI based location tracking. In this thesis we tried to generate a test environment as close to a real Wi-Fi network scenario as possible. Our aim is to implement a simple moving client among different wireless local area networks, which is tracked across the internet by a stationary client. We also assumed that there is a Network Address Translation (NAT) at both LAN internet edges.

A novel user activity prediction model for context aware computing systems
Peker, Serhat; Koçyiğit, Altan; Department of Information Systems (2011)
In the last decade, with the extensive use of mobile electronic and wireless communication devices, there is a growing need for context aware applications and many pervasive computing applications have become integral parts of our daily lives. Context aware recommender systems are one of the popular ones in this area. Such systems surround the users and integrate with the environment; hence, they are aware of the users' context and use that information to deliver personalized recommendations about everyday ...
Enabling slotted Aloha-NOMA for massive M2M communication in IoT networks
Elkourdi, Mohamed; Mazin, Asim; Balevi, Eren; Gitlin, Richard D. (2018-05-23)
© 2018 IEEE.The Internet of things (IoT), which is the network of physical devices embedded with sensors, actuators, and connectivity, is being accelerated into the mainstream by the emergence of 5G wireless networking. This paper presents an uncoordinated non-orthogonal random access protocol, which is an enhancement to the recently introduced Slotted Aloha-NOMA (SAN) protocol that provides high throughput, while being matched to the low complexity requirements and the sporadic traffic pattern of IoT devic...
Varying Temperature Surface Reflection and its Effect on the Indoor Terahertz Wireless Communications
Şahin, Asaf Behzat; Altan, Hakan (2015-04-11)
Advances in the wireless cellular and network applications also necessitate increased traffic on the communications infrastructure. In order to overcome the capacity overload of the current spectral provisions, service providers are looking at higher frequencies. E and V bands of the millimetre wave spectrum are being utilized for mile range relay links, and higher frequency bands such as 220GHz and 340 GHz regions are being considered for indoor very high data rate applications [1]...
An Energy Aware Fuzzy Unequal Clustering Algorithm for Wireless Sensor Networks
Bagci, Hakan; Yazıcı, Adnan (2010-07-23)
In order to gather information more efficiently, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are partitioned into clusters. The most of the proposed clustering algorithms do not consider the location of the base station. This situation causes hot spots problem in multi-hop WSNs. Unequal clustering mechanisms, which are designed by considering the base station location, solve this problem. In this paper, we introduce a fuzzy unequal clustering algorithm (EAUCF) which aims to prolong the lifetime of WSNs. EAUCF adjusts t...
The Use and acceptance of information and communication technologies by senior citizens: a technology acceptance model (TAM) for Turkish population
Güner, Hacer; Acartürk, Cengiz; Department of Information Systems (2017)
To become an information society, it is required that the citizens have access Information and Communication technologies (ICT) in appropriate ways. ICT plays a major role to improve inclusion of various parts of the society into daily life, such as elderly citizens. As in neighbor countries in the EU and in the Middle East, the population of Turkey is getting older, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat, 2016). This urges the need for a systematic investigation of ICT needs of elderly ci...
