This thesis analyzes the prevailing formats of writing in sociology or anthropology that are considered scientific. For whom are sociology and anthropology texts written, and who are the readers of these texts? How does this format of writing that constitutes a text as scientific influence the text-reader relationship? In discussing this, the legitimate ways of writing of sociology and anthropology are presented together with what scientificity brings. the reflexive critique that looks at sociology and anthropology with the very methods of these disciplines is explained in its main lines. within this debate, the importance of the question "whom the texts produced in these sciences are intended for?" is analyzed. This is followed by a discussion of the conditions that enabled the constitution of the conventional forms of expression in sciences. The concept of paradigm as proposed by Thomas Kuhn is used to explain the formation of these conditions.

THE ONTOLOGY OF CAPITAL: ON THE SHARED METHODOLOGICAL LIMITS OF MODERNIZATION THEORY AND ITS CRITICS
Mücen, Barış (2018-06-01)
This article argues that critical scholarship in historical studies has not overcome the methodological limits of modernization theory for failing to question the ontological principles that construct its object of analysis. I call these principles the ontology of capital and explicate them through Bourdieu's conceptualization of the field and capital. I argue that this ontology is established according to a distribution model in which social entities come into the analysis with the amount and value of the ...

Altuğ, Sezen; Bağçe, Samet; Department of Philosophy (2016)
The aim of this thesis is to develop a critical view about the notion of the heuristic in Lakatos’s methodology of research programmes. The heuristic is tried to be sterilized from its defects with an insight derived from different forms of theories dealing with questions. For that reason, a short survey which includes Socratic dialogues, Hintikka’s theory of interrogative games, van Fraassen’s theory of why-questions, and Laudan’s analogy between science and problem-solving activity is introduced. As a res...

This research presents a brief survey of literature on the use of examples and generic examples in concept formation, and the observation of these theoretical ideas in a number of exam papers. Explanatory insight is given to c1arify the situations in the exam papers. By focusing on the students' answers and the definition given on generic example definition, mainly two suggestions arise for the usage of generic examples. Firstly, the sequence of the exemplification may be in the order of all the generic exa...
The Historiographic Problem in the Renaissance
Vatan Demirkan, Pelin; Boztemur, Recep; Department of History (2023-3-22)
This thesis aims to analyze some characteristics of history writing in the Renaissance era as an overlooked concept of the subject. In the literature, the period is perceived either in too romantic or too critical perspectives. The former side views the era as the emergent movement of modern European culture, without analyzing its Medieval characteristics. On the other hand, the latter side tends to underestimate the significant features of this era, mostly because of romantic perspective’s effect. Neverthe...
