The research area is located to the northern tip of Tuzgolu fault zone in the junction of neotectonic structures, namely, Eskişehir-Cihanbeyli, Sungurlu-Kırıkkale and Tuzgölü fault zones (Central Anatolia). The study is carried out in Paleocene sequences of Paşadağ group on the structural analysis of bed, gash vein, fault and fault plane slippage data. The method of study based on i) the rose and stereo analysis of the planar structure (beds, gash veins and faults) on ROCKWORKS 2009 software and ii) on fault slip analysis on ANGELIER 1979 software. The bed analyses done on 605 measurements manifest N10°-20°E bedding attitude. The analysis done on 64 gash veins shows a general trend of NNE-SSW (N15°E). The final analysis done on 160 fault planes pointed out a general trend of NNWSSE (N20°W). Analysis based on the fault plane slip data manifest two stages of faulting under almost NE-SW compression during post-Paleocene – pre-Miocene period and one stage of faulting under WNW-ESE extension most probably during post-Miocene. To conclude, the Paleocene sequences are deformed continuously under WNW-ESE directed compression which is followed by a NE-SW to N-S compression resulted in the development of a reverse to dextral strike slip faulting during post-Paleocene – pre-Miocene period.

Post-paleocene deformation in Kalecik region, East of Ankara, Turkey
Kasımoğlu, Pınar; Rojay, Fuat Bora; Department of Geological Engineering (2010)
In order to understand the tectonic evolution of the Kalecik region (Ankara, Turkey), a structural field study was performed in a selected area located in the east of Kalecik, where mostly imbricated thrust sheets of the Cretaceous Ophiolitic melange crop out. In the study area, the Cretaceous Ophiolitic melange, Cretaceous radiolaria-bearing sequences and the Paleocene units are all intruded by sub-vertical dykes. The attitudes of planar structures (dykes, beds and faults) and the kinematic data measured o...
Kinematics of Surgu Fault Zone (Malatya, Turkey): A remote sensing study
Koc, Ayten; Kaymakcı, Nuretdin (2013-04-01)
The Surgu Fault Zone (SFZ) is located in SE Anatolia extending from Goksun in the west to Celikhan in the east, where it bifurcates from the East Anatolian Fault Zone. A detailed analysis along the fault using satellite images, digital elevation models (DEMs) and aerial photographs revealed that the SFZ displays characteristic deformation patterns common to dextral strike-slip faults, including pressure ridges, displaced linear valleys, and deflected stream courses. In addition to this, fault slip data coll...
The Character and displacement of Adıyaman fault (southeast anatolia): evidence from subsurface data
Durukan, Bayram Alper; Bozkurt, Erdin; Department of Geological Engineering (2019)
Structural interpretation of five 2D seismic sections acquired by TPAO is carried out in the Adıyaman region of Southeast Anatolia. The sections are geological calibrated with stratigraphic logs of five boreholes. This study has resulted in the discovery of a previously undefined fault, herein named as Şambayat Fault. The fault is a NW-SEtrending structure that parallels the Bozova Fault and comprises several parallel fault segments. The structural maps of Cretaceous Sayındere and Karababa formations are al...
Neo- and seismo-tectonic characteristics of the Yenigediz (Kütahya) area
Gürboğa, Şule; Koçyiğit, Ali; Department of Geological Engineering (2011)
Erdoğmuş-Yenigediz graben is one of the major structural elements of Akşehir-Simav Fault System (ASFS), which is a major extensional structure in the southwestern Anatolian extensional neotectonic province (SWAEP). It is about 6-10-km-wide, 15-km-long and approximately ENE-trending and is actively growing structure as indicated by the 1970.03.28 (Mw= 7.2) Gediz earthquake. The graben is characterized by two distinct units, separated by an angular unconformity: (i) Miocene-middle Pliocene Arıca formation and...
Identification of morphometric properties of basins located on western part of NAFZ
Sarp, Gülcan; Toprak, Vedat; Düzgün, H. Şebnem; Department of Geodetic and Geographical Information Technologies (2012)
This study aims to investigate tectonic activity levels and development stages of the tectonic and hydrologic basin areas located on western part of the main trace of the North Anatolian Fault Zone (NAFZ) using quantitative measurement techniques. The basins investigated are Bolu, Yeniçağa, Dörtdivan, Çerkes, Ilgaz and Tosya. The methodology includes application of six morphometric indices (Basin Shape, Hypsometric curve and Hypsometric Integral, Sinuosity of Mountain Fronts, Stream Length Gradient Index, V...
