This study examines the customer demand oriented product development in brief and observes it in a case study held in MAN Türkiye A.Ş. through an interior design project of an inner-city bus, to cope with the production problems caused by various customer demands. The author aimed to document and to evaluate the product design process, so as to be used as a formal method in similar design cases, especially by highlighting critical design strategies. Finally a general evaluation of the project, method and the design strategies were made together with observations and suggestions for managing product development in MAN Türkiye.

A Lexicon for product experience related communication
Onuşluel, Gonca; Özcan Vieira, Elif; Pedgley, Owaın Francıs; Department of Industrial Design (2012)
In this thesis, product experiences were analyzed in human-product interaction context. The terminology to describe product experiences were gathered and grouped with the studies carried out during the thesis. The conceptual network of product experiences were attempted to be established by examining the stages of human-product interaction in the limitations of the studies. The gathered terminology was composed of both concrete and abstract product features. The abstract product features which are used for ...
Integration of supplier process : supplier segmentation, supplier selection and order allocation in a case company
Özalp, Yeşim; Köksal, Gülser; Department of Industrial Engineering (2005)
This thesis attempts to integrate the three supplier processes- supplier segmentation, supplier selection/evaluation and order allocation- based on a case study of a white goods manufacturer. These processes are dealt with in a hierarchical manner, where the decisions at an earlier stage (supplier segmentation) may affect on the results of later stages (supplier selection/evaluation and order allocation). Based on a wide set of variables gathered from the supplier segmentation literature and from the framew...
Implications of additive manufacturing applications for industrial design profession from the perspective of industrial designers
Alpay, Efe; Toksöz, Mehmet Refik; Department of Industrial Design (2012)
The purpose of this study was to investigate the implications of additive manufacturing on industrial design profession and designers through an explorative study. Through a literature survey, implications of additive manufacturing technologies on industrial designers and industrial design profession were explored. Expanding literature survey with on-line searches, several experimental and commercial application examples of rapid manufacturing of products were identified. These identified examples were then...
A sampling methodology for usability testing of consumer products considering individual differences
Berkman, Ali Emre; Erbuğ, Çiğdem; Department of Industrial Design (2010)
Aim of the study was to discuss and identify individual differences that influence the user performance during usability tests of consumer products that are known to prevent researchers to conduct systematic studies. The rationale behind the study was developing a tool for sampling in order to handle experiential factors as a variable rather than a source of error. The study made it possible to define and elaborate on constructs general interaction expertise (GIE) and general interaction self efficacy (GISE...
Multi-item inventory-routing problem for an FMCG company
Zerman, Erel; Kırca, Ömer; Department of Industrial Engineering (2007)
In this study, inventoryrouting system of a company operating in Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry is analyzed. The company has decided to redesign distribution system by locating regional warehouses between production plants and customers. The warehouses in the system are all allowed to hold stock without any capacity restriction. The customers are replenished by the warehouse to which they have been assigned. Customer stocks are continuously monitored by the warehouse and deliveries are to be sch...
