Ultrasonic characterisation of hot-rolled and heat-treated plain carbon steels
Gür, Cemil Hakan (British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT), 2003-09-01)
The aim of the study is to characterise hot-rolled and heat-treated plain-C steels (SAE 1020 and 1050) by ultrasonic velocity and attenuation measurements. Various heat treatment procedures were applied by changing the austenitisation temperature and the cooling rate to distinguish the affects of grain size and microstructural phases on ultrasonic properties. Velocities of both longitudinal and transversal waves were measured and backwall echo patterns were obtained for each specimen. The variations in the ...
Ultrasonic pulse velocity in concrete using direct and indirect transmission
Yaman, İsmail Özgür; Yesiller, Nazli; Aktan, Haluk M. (2001-11-01)
The relationship between velocities of ultrasonic stress waves transmitted along direct and indirect paths was investigated. Tests were conducted on plain concrete slabs of dimensions 1000 x 1500 mm, with a thickness of 250 mm. Direct ultrasonic wave transmission tests were conducted between top and bottom surfaces of the slabs and indirect tests were conducted along the slab surface. A test procedure, described in BS 1881 to determine indirect wave velocities, was refined by defining the number and spacing...
