Genetic differentiation of European black poplar (Populus Nigra L.) clones and populations with respect to some enzymes involved in biosynthesis of cellulose and lignin
Taşkıran, Bircan; Kaya, Zeki; Department of Biology (2020)
The European black poplar, (Populus nigra L.) is ecologically and economically important fast-growing trees. Its wide distribution range in northern hemisphere, easy vegetative propagation, rapid growth rate and hybridization ability, and also its biomass source potential make European black poplar a perfect candidate for lignocellulosic biomass production. In this study, specific activities of two important cellulose related (SuSy and UGPase) and three lignin pathway related (PAL, 4CL, and CAD) enzymes, we...
GENETIC VARIATION IN HONEY BEE (Apis mellifera L.) POPULATIONS FROM BULGARIA
Ivanova, Evgeniya N.; Petrov, Plamen; Bouga, Maria; Emmanouel, Nicholas G.; TUNCA, RAHŞAN İVGİN; Kence, Meral (2010-01-01)
Genetic variation of honey bee populations from 9 different locations of Bulgaria was studied using 4 enzymic systems (MDH, ME, EST and ALP) corresponding to 4 genetic loci and PCR-RFLP's analysis of 16s rDNA, COI, and ND5 gene segments of mtDNA. Allozyme analysis revealed that all loci were polymorphic in almost all studied populations. The observed heterozygosity was found to range from 0.146 to 0.258, and Nei's genetic distance between 0.006 and 0.057 among the populations. Bulgarian honey bees are clust...
Genetic relationships among perennial and annual Cicer species growing in Turkey as revealed by allozymes
Sudupak, MA; Kence, Aykut (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2004-05-01)
Allozyme polymorphisms were used to assess genetic variation and relationships among ten Cicer species ( annuals and perennials) growing in Turkey. Using seven enzyme systems, 12 putative scorable loci were detected and surveyed for polymorphism in an accession collection including wild and cultivated forms. Variation was generally low within accessions and species, but common between species. Cluster analysis based on the pairwise genetic distance coefficients (Nei 1978) among accessions and species using ...
Genetic variation in Turkish red pine (Pinus brutia Ten.) seed stands as determined by RAPD markers
Kandedmir, GE; Kandemir, I; Kaya, Zeki (2004-01-01)
Turkish red pine (Pinus brutia Ten.) is one of the important tree species in Turkey. The species has been heavily disturbed by anthropogenic factors and fire, making it important to understand the magnitude of the impact on genetic diversity of areas reserved for seed production. To explore the extent of genetic variation in Turkish red pine seed stands, a random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) marker system was used in the study. The estimated genic diversity for seed stands was found to range from H=0.17...
Genetic differentiation of Abies equi-trojani (Asch. & Sint. ex Boiss) Mattf. populations from Kazdaǧι, Turkey and the genetic relationship between Turkish firs belonging to the Abies nordmanniana Spach complex
Kaya, Zeki; Neale, David Brian (2008-02-05)
The present study aimed to test the utility of RAPD (randomly amplified polymorphic DNA) and cpSSR (simple sequence repeats) markers for in situ gene conservation programs for fir species, as well as for determining the genetic similarities between the Abies nordmanniana Spach species complex (A. nordmanniana, A. bornmuelleriana Matff., A. equi-trojani (Asch. & Sint. ex Boiss) Mattf.) and between populations of A. equi-trojani, which is a narrow-endemic to Turkey. For this purpose, DNA was extracted and poo...
