The developments in nanotechnology in last decades have provided use of nanoparticles for many applications in various areas such as electronics, fuel cells, composites, cosmetics, and biomedical. They have excellent mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties. Nanotechnology is one of the fastest growing areas in materials and engineering science and biotechnology. Nanotubes have been one of the most regarded and studied type of nanoparticles up to now. Boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) are an important m...
Adsorption of Cd(II) ions from aqueous solutions using activated carbon prepared from olive stone by ZnCl2 activation
Kula, Ibrahim; Ugurlu, Mehmet; Karaoglu, M. Hamdi; Celik, Ali (2008-02-01)
This study is aimed to remove Cd(II) ions from aqueous solutions by adsorption. As adsorbent, activated carbon prepared from olive stone, an agricultural solid by-product was used. Different activating agent (ZnCl2) amounts and adsorbent particle size were studied to optimize adsorbent surface area. The adsorption experiments were conducted at different parameters such as, adsorbent dose, temperature, equilibrium time and pH. According to the experiments results, the equilibrium time, optimum pH, adsorbent ...
Adsorption of H2O on double layer stepped Si(111) surface
Katırcıoğlu, Şenay (1997-03-10)
We have investigated possible water adsorption forms on stepped Si(111) surface. Calculations have been performed by using the empirical tight-binding method. Two types of adsorption model of water on single layer stepped Si(111) surface have been considered; one of them is the dissociative type (H, OH) and the other is the molecular type (H2O). The total electronic energy and TDOS calculations lead to a dissociative type of adsorption of water on stepped Si(111) surface excluding the molecular type. (C) 19...
