The Group 8 and 9 metal(III) ion-exchanged zeolite were prepared from the ion exchange of metal(III) ions with the extra framework Na+ cations of zeolite Y with a Si/Al ratio of 2.5. They were characterized by using inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The Group 8 and 9 metal(III) ion-exchanged zeolite materials prepared were tested as catalysts in decomposition of nitrous oxide to oxygen and nitrogen. The catalytic decomposition of nitrous oxide in the presence of metal(III) ion-exchanged zeolite catalyst was carried out in a continuous flow vertical reactor at flow rate of 100 mL/min of 1000 ppm nitrous oxide helium mixture. The catalytic reaction was followed by monitoring the change in concentration of reactant nitrous oxide as well as the products nitrogen and oxygen by gas chromatography. Side products were followed by NOx analyzer. Catalytic activity of ruthenium(III) ion-exchanged zeolite Y is studied depending on the ruthenium loading of zeolite and flow rate of nitrous oxide helium mixture. The results collected reveal that ruthenium(III) ion-exchange zeolite with a ruthenium loading of 3.98wt.% is highly active, long-lived, and reusable catalyst providing 100% conversion of nitrous oxide to sole nitrogen and oxygen at 350 °C without any side reaction. This catalyst can be bottled under ambient conditions and repeatedly used in successive runs of nitrous oxide decomposition for up to five months without significant loss in activity. The other two metals of Group 8, iron(III) and osmium(III) ion-exchanged zeolite Y do not show activity as high as that of ruthenium(III) ion-exchanged zeolite Y in the same reaction. Rhodium(III) ion exchanged zeolite Y (2.12wt.%) gives the highest activity among Group 9 metal ion exchanged zeolite Y catalysts in decomposition of nitrous oxide.

Preparation of MFI type zeolite membranes in a flow system with circulation of the synthesis solution
Çulfaz Emecen, Pınar Zeynep; Kalıpçılar, Halil (2006-06-20)
MFI type zeolite membranes were prepared on seeded tubular alumina supports in a flow system where the synthesis solution was circulated through the support with flow rates of 6, 24 and 48 mL/min. Syntheses were carried out using clear solutions, at 80 degrees C and 95 degrees C at atmospheric pressure in the flow system, and at autogeneous pressure in the batch system. The membranes synthesized in the flow system had thickness of 1-2 mu m, and were thinner than the membranes synthesized in the batch system...
Preparation and characterization of zeolite framework stabilized cuprous oxide nanoparticles
Zahmakiran, Mehmet; Özkar, Saim (Elsevier BV, 2009-05-15)
Zeolite framework stabilized copper(I) oxide nanoparticles (4.8 +/- 2.6 nm) were prepared for the first time by using a four step procedure: the ion exchange of Cu(2+) ions with the extra framework Na(+) ions in Zeolite-Y, the reduction of the Cu(2+) ions within the cavities of zeolite with sodium borohydride in aqueous solution, the dehydration of Zeolite-Y with the copper(0) nanoclusters, and the oxidation of intrazeolite copper(0) nanoclusters by O(2) at room temperature. Zeolite stabilized copper(I) oxi...
Synthesis of new pyrazolium based tunable aryl alkyl ionic liquids and their use in removal of methylene blue from aqueous solution
Özdemir, Melek (2019-6-29)
In this study, two new pyrazolium based tunable aryl alkyl ionic liquids, 2-ethyl-1-(4-methylphenyl)-3,5- dimethylpyrazolium tetrafluoroborate (3a) and 1-(4-methylphenyl)-2-pentyl-3,5-dimethylpyrazolium tetrafluoroborate (3b), were synthesized via three-step reaction and characterized. The removal of methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solution has been investigated using the synthesized salts as an extractant and methylene chloride as a solvent. The obtained results show that MB was extracted from aqueous sol...
Synthesis and characterization of conducting copolymers of succinic acid bis-(4-pyrrol-1-yl-phenyl) ester and their electrochromic properties
Ertas, M; Çırpan, Ali; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Elsevier BV, 2004-05-07)
A new dipyrrolyl monomer was synthesized via the reaction between 4-pyrrol-1-yl phenol and butanedioyl dichloride. Electrochemical behavior of this monomer, succinic acid bis-(4-pyrrol-1-yl-phenyl) ester (SM) was studied. Homopolymerization was achieved by chemical and constant Current electrolysis methods. Copolymerization of SM with thiophene was performed by constant potential electrolysis in acetonitrile (AN)-tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate (TBAFB) and dichloromethane (DCM)-TBAFB, solvent-electroly...
Preparation and microstructure of sol-gel derived silver-doped silica
Akkopru, Betul; Durucan, Caner (2007-08-01)
Silver-doped silica was prepared by hydrolysis and condensation of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS, Si(OC2H5)(4)) in the presence of a silver nitrate (AgNO3) solution by two different synthesis methods. In the first synthesis route, sol-gel mixtures were prepared using an acid catalyst. In the second synthesis route, silver-doped silica gels were formed by two-step acid/base catalysis. For the same concentration of silver dopant [AgNO3]/[TEOS] = 0.015 acid-catalyzed sol-gel formed a microporous silica with a...
