The primary purpose of this thesis is to compare the effects on signal significance of the topological variables, W-stransverse mass ($M^W_{T2}$) and topness, which would be used in Supersymmetry searches in the single lepton channels in the future collider experiments. In this thesis, Stau-coannihilation scenarios were used as signal samples along with the four major background events, $t\bar{t}$+jets, boson+jets, single top+jets, and diboson, of supersymmetric top squark pair production and cascade decays. These brand new topological variables were proposed as an alternative to the classical variables such as $M_T$ and $H_T$ for background elimination due to the mathematically underconstrained nature of both $t\bar{t}$ and signal cascade decays. Since both the signal and the background samples were required to be produced at higher energies than the experiments conducted up to now, simulation programs such as Pythia and Delphes, were used to produce those samples. With the help of pyROOT data analysis framework, the samples are processed according to the kinematical and topological requirements. The results show that by applying a cut on both $M^W_{T2}$ and topness variables separately, a significant increase in the statistical significance of the signal was obtained. Moreover, these variables almost gave the same significance results for all the signal scenarios with or without pile-up.

Search for neutral MSSM Higgs bosons decaying to a pair of tau leptons in pp collisions
Khachatryan, V.; et. al. (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2014-10-01)
A search for neutral Higgs bosons in the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model (MSSM) decaying to tau-lepton pairs in pp collisions is performed, using events recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 24.6 fb−1, with 4.9 fb−1 at 7 TeV and 19.7 fb−1 at 8 TeV. To enhance the sensitivity to neutral MSSM Higgs bosons, the search includes the case where the Higgs boson is produced in association with a b-quark jet. No excess is observed in ...
Search for supersymmetry in events with a photon, a lepton, and missing transverse momentum in proton-proton collisions at root s=13 TeV
Sirunyan, A. M.; et. al. (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2019-01-01)
Results of a search for supersymmetry are presented using events with a photon, an electron or muon, and large missing transverse momentum. The analysis is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb(-1) of proton-proton collisions at 13 TeV, produced by the LHC and collected with the CMS detector in 2016. Theoretical models with gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking predict events with photons in the final state, as well as electroweak gauge bosons decaying to leptons. Searc...
Search for supersymmetry in events with a photon, a lepton, and missing transverse momentum in pp collisions at root s=8 TeV
Khachatryan, V.; et. al. (Elsevier BV, 2016-06-01)
A search for supersymmetry involving events with at least one photon, one electron or muon, and large missing transverse momentum has been performed by the CMS experiment. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb(-1) of pp collisions at root s = 8 TeV, produced at the CERN LHC. No excess of events is observed beyond expectations from standard model processes. The result of the search is interpreted in the context of a general model of gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking, where th...
Search for supersymmetry with Higgs boson to diphoton decays using the razor variables at root s=13 TeV
Sirunyan, A. M.; et. al. (Elsevier BV, 2018-04-01)
An inclusive search for anomalous Higgs boson production in the diphoton decay channel and in association with at least one jet is presented, using LHC proton-proton collision data collected by the CMS experiment at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb(-1). The razor variables M-R and R-2, as well as the momentum and mass resolution of the diphoton system, are used to categorize events into different search regions. The search result is interpreted in th...
Search for light resonances decaying into pairs of muons as a signal of new physics
Chatrchyan, S.; et. al. (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2011-07-01)
A search for groups of collimated muons is performed using a data sample collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, at a centre-of-mass energy of 7TeV, and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35 pb(-1). The analysis searches for production of new low-mass states decaying into pairs of muons and is designed to achieve high sensitivity to a broad range of models predicting leptonic jet signatures. With no excess observed over the background expectation, upper limits on the production cross section t...
