A grouping approach may ease the process of supply prediction. It is shown that trend of the streams in the same basins have similar trend and it is also important to analyse that whether there are similarity between the trend of the neighbour basins or not. It is seen in the experiments that structure based hierarchical clustering makes the clus- tering based on the trend of the time series and this method reveals the connections between the basins which have similar trends in the flow of their streams. The aim of this thesis is to find the basin based clustering of the hydroelectric power plants and stream-flow and hydroelectric energy production datasets are used and the results of both are compared with each other. In conclusion, it is shown that basin based clustering is done successfully by use of structure based hierarchical clustering on the stream-flow dataset and the result is visualized on the Turkey map.

Distributed Generation Hosting Capacity Calculation of MV Distribution Feeders in Turkey
Altin, Mufit; Bizkevelci, Erdal; Oguz, Emre Utku; Simsek, Bilal (2014-10-15)
Integration of distributed generation into distribution networks introduces new challenges to distribution system operators while the penetration level increases. One of the challenges is the voltage rise issue as a part of the steady-state analysis of DGs during planning and operational stages. This issue should be analyzed in order to determine the hosting capacity of distribution feeders in the first instance. Accordingly, Turkey is a promising candidate to integrate high penetration of DGs and has recen...
Empirical analysis of the relationship between electricity demand and economic uncertainty
Akarsu, Gülsüm; Gaygısız Lajunen, Esma; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2013)
The determination of the factors that influence electricity demand and the estimation of price and income elasticities are very crucial for both effective policies and consistent demand projections. The purposes of this dissertation are to investigate the determinants of electricity demand, to obtain the price and income elasticities, and to examine the effect of economic uncertainty/volatility on the electricity demand. We model electricity demand as a function of electricity price, income, urbanization ra...
Renewable energy planning in Turkey with a focus on hydropower
Gök, Emre; Kentel Erdoğan, Elçin; Department of Civil Engineering (2013)
As a country highly dependent on foreign fossil fuel sources, Turkey experiences many problems due to its increasing energy consumption in parallel with increasing population and rapid economic growth. Foreign fossil fuel dependency adversely affects sustainable development of the country by hindering its economic development. Because of this, renewable energy sources of the country should be evaluated and developed as soon as possible. Prioritization of the development of renewable energy sources to increa...
Application of r-vine copula method in Istanbul stock market data: A case study for the construction sector
Farnoudkia, Hajar; Purutçuoğlu Gazi, Vilda (Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt Üniversitesi , 2020-12-01)
In the stock market, the relationship between the sectorial changes can be very informative in order to predict the changes in prices of assets from each sector. In order to understand these sectorial relations, various studies have been conducted. In one of the recent studies, the construction sector in Turkey was investigated in terms of its effect in other Turkish sectors since it is one of the leading sectors in Turkey and its assets have a significant impact in stock markets. Hereby, in this study we d...
Promoting the Investment on IPPs for Optimal Grid Planning
TOR, Osman Bulent; Güven, Ali Nezih; Shahidehpour, Mohammad (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2010-08-01)
This paper presents a transmission expansion planning (TEP) model which coordinates investment decisions in monopolistic transmission and decentralized generator sectors. The proposed planning approach gauges transmission congestion and security constraints with respect to transmission investments while promoting investments on independent power produces (IPPs) through incentive payments. The paper includes discussions on incentive mechanisms and prioritization among qualified IPPs for several planning scen...
