The aim of the thesis is to analyse the mutual impact of the processes of the German reunification and European integration in the post-war era interchangeably, and specifically elaborate on the European Union experience of Germany from this period till 2009 Eurozone Debt Crisis. In this context, the focal point of the thesis will be to understand how German reunification actually emerged as an indispensable fact both for two separate German states and for the whole European continent. Given that the idea of European integration came into existence with the primary intention of answering the German Question, there has always existed a firm link between the German reunification and the European integration. Although the resolution of the German Question and the progress of European integration have experienced many ups and downs in their distinctive but mostly overlapping paths during the Cold War, they have always had a remarkable impact on each other which resulted in the advent of a reunited Germany in the context of the European Union. Under the shed light of all these points, throughout this thesis, the firm attachment among the German reunification and the European integration will be evaluated from different perspectives within the historical and contextual framework. Related to this target, the European Union experience of the enlarged Germany will be assessed thoroughly until 2009 Eurozone Crisis. Following that, the post-Cold War transformation of the European Union will be issued along with the incrementally rising importance of Germany within the EU.

Reforming the European union budget: a socıal constructivist policy approach
Deniz, Mustafa; Kahraman, Sevilay; Department of International Relations (2010)
The budget of the European Union has accomplished a significant role for European integration in the history of the Union. However, it has not resulted into anticipated developments compatible with the Union’s institutional policy reform process in the last decades. The budget has emerged as a consequence of path dependent developments in its historical progress, which has dragged the European Union to a critical stage. It is rather challenging for the Union now to sustain the current structure of the budge...
Party-level euroscepticism of the radical populist political parties in the european union member states: the cases of the united kingdom independence party (UKİP) and the coalition of the radical left (SYRİZA)
Özbey, Ebru Ece; Şenyuva, Özgehan; Department of European Studies (2016)
In this thesis, I investigate the strategic and ideological aspects of the Euroscepticisms of the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) and the Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA) as examples of radical populist parties which have been on the rise in Europe for the last three decades –especially since the 2014 European Parliamentary elections. I contest the way these parties are represented in media and academia, which is often alarmist and devoid of nuance, and claim that deeming these parties as a t...

Atay, Niyazi Güneş; Bağcı, Hüseyin; Department of International Relations (2004)
This thesis examines the South East European policy of the European Union, which promoted the prospect of a ءUnited Europe̕. After the end of the bipolar world system, the ultimate aim of the East European countries has been the integration into the European Union. The transition and integration process, that they initiated in accordance with this aim, made up the basis of their relations with the Union. Nevertheless, the South East European countries, which became a sub-region within East Europe, joined to...
Germany's main political parties' stances towards Turkey in the context of EU enlargement

This study explores how the European Union Enlargement policy of Germany as represented by her main political parties, being the Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands (Social Democratic Party-SPD) and the Christlich Demokratische Union Deutschlands (Christian Democratic Union-CDU), has evolved after 1990 towards the case of Turkey. These two parties have been analysed because they have clear and different stances towards Turkey’s EU Accession process and they have witnessed and shaped watershed events of ...
