Frequency Diverse Array (FDA) is a recent concept with lots of advantages that are emerged for the radar applications. In order to implement FDA practically, Linear Frequency Modulation (LFM) based FDA is recently offered. A tunable oscillator with delay lines is enough for the implementation. This novel design caught up the gaps of the FDA for a cheap implementation. In order to implement radar, there should be lots of features in the signal processing as well as in the RF front-end. One of the important features of radar is the direction finding (DF). In this thesis, various methods for the implementation of DF for LFM based FDA radar are proposed. In the flow of the thesis, theories behind the FDA and LFM based FDA are reviewed. Two methods for the implementation of the DF for LFM based FDA are suggested and demonstrated with the experiments. Results, possible improvements and future studies are shared with the reader.

Prospects of FMCW-based frequency diverse array radar
Cetiner, Ramazan; Cetintepe, Cagri; Demir, Şimşek; Hizal, Altunkan (2019-11-01)
The linear frequency modulated (LFM) frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW)-based frequency diverse array (FDA) radar concept is investigated in detail. The radar operates as a linear pulsed FMCW/FDA in the transmission (TX) mode while it operates as a pulsed FMCW/phased array (PA) in the receiving mode. The issues such as low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of FDA, the time-angle scanning and time-range ambiguities are studied. It is shown that the local instantaneous frequency bandwidth is much smaller th...
Exploitation of Linear Frequency Modulated Continuous Waveform (LFMCW) for Frequency Diverse Arrays
Eker, T.; Demir, Şimşek; Hizal, A. (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2013-07-01)
Frequency diverse arrays (FDA) are recently introduced. Not only the phased array and frequency scanning arrays, but also FDA provides electronic beam scanning ability. Moreover, electronic beam scanning is provided without the use of phase shifters or vector modulators. Nevertheless, reported studies on this concept do not provide practically implementable results. In this paper, fundamental expressions of the FDA operation and its typical implementation schemes are reviewed, and an ultimately useful schem...
Optimizing age of information on real-life TCP/IP connections through reinforcement learning
Sert, Egemen; Sonmez, Canberk; Baghaee, Sajjad; Uysal, Elif (2018-07-05)
Age of Information (AoI) has emerged as a performance metric capturing the freshness of data for status-update based applications ( e.g. , remote monitoring) as a more suitable alternative to classical network performance indicators such as throughput or delay. Optimizing AoI often requires distinctly novel and sometimes counter-intuitive networking policies that adapt the rate of update transmissions to the randomness in network resources. However, almost all previous work on AoI to data has been theoretic...
Analysis of frequency diverse arrays for radar and communication applications
Çetintepe, Çağrı; Demir, Şimşek; Koç, Seyit Sencer; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2015)
Frequency diverse array (FDA) concept is one particular manifestation of waveform diversity, a topic which gains popularity among the research community in response to pressing demands of modern radar and communication systems such as multiple tasks, capacity and security. Introduction of a set of waveforms to the elements of an array, with slight shifts in the carrier frequencies so to establish frequency diversity, leads to far-field patterns that are remarkably different from conventional phased arrays, ...
Modulation and frequency response of GDDs in the millimeter wave/THz region
Alasgarzade, N.; Takan, T.; Uzun Kaymak, İlker Ümit; ŞAHİN, ASAF BEHZAT; Altan, Hakan (2015-09-22)
New methods are being developed for efficient detection of terahertz waves. While many detection techniques show promise their commercial development is still limited due to the overall complexity and cost of the imaging system. Using commercially available neon indicator lamps the interaction mechanism between the glow plasma and the millimeter / THz wave is investigated in detail as a function of the device speed, sensitivity to frequency and polarization of the light. A lock-in amplifier was used to meas...
