Sulfuric acid leaching of Turkish chromite concentrate
Geveci, Ahmet; Topkaya, Yavuz Ali (2002-11-01)
In this work a high grade chromite concentrate obtained from Pinarbasi-Kayseri district of Turkey was reacted with a solution of sulfuric acid and perchloric acid. The effect of sulfuric acid concentration, temperature, duration, and perchloric acid addition on leach recovery was studied. At the end of leach reaction chromium appeared in the solution as Cr3+ and it did not change to environmentally hazardous Cr6+. The final product in the solution was chromium(III) sulfate obtained with about 83% maximum re...

Sulfur capture for fluidized-bed combustion of high-sulfur content lignites
Altindag, H; Gogebakan, Y; Selçuk, Nevin (2004-12-01)
Sulfur release and capture behavior of lignites with highly combustible sulfur-contents were investigated by extending a previously-developed comprehensive model to incorporate sulfur retention. The predictive performance of the model was tested by comparing the model predictions with on-line concentration measurements of O-2, CO2, CO and SO2. Favorable comparisons are obtained between the predicted and measured concentrations of gaseous species along the combustor. Results show that freeboard sulfur-captur...
