Efficient energy consumption is a trending topic nowadays, which has serious effects both environmentally and financially. Commercial and industrial buildings waste huge amounts of energy because of lack of integrated optimization systems. In this thesis, a big data analytics architecture for large-scale multi-tenant energy optimization systems is proposed, which is capable of doing various near-real time analyses on sensor data with the help of machine learning models created from old sensor data. In order to build big data analytics handling subsystem there are several steps during the flow of the sensor data. Raw data collected from the sensors in the field to the system is parsed and turned into meaningful data containing required features. This meaningful data is used for predicting the forth-coming energy consumption values. Prediction feature of the system is carried out with a machine learning model created from old sensor data. This meaningful data is also used for updating this machine learning model, to improve the accuracy and provide compatibility of model with live sensor data. Prediction and model update analyses are implemented on the streaming sensor data, without first storing it to a database or file system to provide near-real time feature of system. A very important feature of the system is scalability, which means adding new tenants or increasing the frequency of sensor data arrival is handled by system.

Bigdata analytics architectures for HVAC energy optimization systems
Poyraz, Doğan; Şener, Cevat; Department of Computer Engineering (2015)
Energy consumption affects both energy bills of the buildings and environment greatly. Especially HVAC systems are the components that consume the most energy in commercial or residential buildings. HVAC stands for heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems in the buildings. In this thesis, data organization, retrieval and processing needs of a HVAC energy optimization system (EOS) have been analyzed, underlying technologies have been examined and architectural solutions have been proposed in order t...
A NUMERICAL INVESTIGATION OF A TLP SYSTEM
Koç, Melodi Neşe; Oğuz, Elif; Department of Civil Engineering (2022-5-06)
Renewable energy is becoming a popular research topic over the last decades. The floating wind turbine system consists of a typical wind turbine with a platform that the tower of the turbine is implemented. One of the popular floating systems is known as Tension Leg Platforms (TLPs). In this study, TLP is chosen due to the limiting nature of the system in terms of heave, roll and pitch motions. Due to the complexity of the system, coupling analysis of TLPs become important. In this thesis, a benchmark study...
A Novel Wind Power Forecast Model: Statistical Hybrid Wind Power Forecast Technique (SHWIP)
Ozkan, Mehmet; Karagöz, Pınar (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2015)
As the result of increasing population and growing technological activities, nonrenewable energy sources, which are the main energy providers, are diminishing day by day. Due to this factor, efforts on efficient utilization of renewable energy sources have increased all over the world. Wind is one of the most significant alternative energy resources. However, in comparison with other renewable energy sources, it is so variable that there is a need for estimating and planning of wind power generation. In thi...
An operational data based framework for longwall shearerperformance measurement
Yılmaz, Enver; Erkayaoğlu, Mustafa (2019-07-06)
Coal is an important part of the energy mix in today’s world. In most countries, the deposits that can be economically extracted using surface mining techniques are becoming scarcer, resulting in underground mining, especially longwall operations, providing a larger share of total coal production. Optimisation of longwall operations should take equipment performance into consideration to understand the efficiency of the system and utilize it continuously as part of decision-making. In this study, the effect...
Parametric analysis of BIM-based building energy performance for supporting multi-objective optimization
Can, Esra; Akçamete Güngör, Aslı; Department of Civil Engineering (2022-5-11)
Building energy efficiency comes into prominence as buildings constitute a significant portion of world energy consumption and CO2 emissions. To achieve energy-efficient buildings, energy performance assessments should be conducted meticulously, yet it is difficult to comprehensively estimate the buildings’ energy consumption since energy performance assessments are complex multi-criteria problems that are affected by many factors such as building orientation, envelope design, climatic conditions, daylight ...
