Dynamic simulation of fluidized bed combustors and its validation against measurements
Selçuk, Nevin; Degirmenci, E (2001-01-01)
A dynamic mathematical model of a continuous atmospheric bubbling fluidized bed combustor (ABFBC) has been developed on the basis of first principles and used to correlate data from a pilot-scale combustor, The model accounts for bed and freeboard hydrodynamics, volatiles release and combustion, char particles combustion and their size distribution, and heat transfer. The solution procedure of dynamic model employs method of lines (MOL) approach for the solution of the governing nonlinear partial differenti...
Dynamic programming algorithms for scheduling parallel machines with family setup times
Webster, Scott; Azizoğlu, Meral (Elsevier BV, 2001-2)
We address the problem of scheduling jobs with family setup times on identical parallel machines to minimize total weighted flowtime. We present two dynamic programming algorithms - a backward algorithm and a forward algorithm - and we identify characteristics of problems where each algorithm is best suited. We also derive two properties that improve the computational efficiency of the algorithms. Scope and purpose While most production schedulers must balance conflicting goals of high system efficiency and...
