In this study, we construct a feasible region, in which we maximize the likelihood function, by using Shapiro-Wilk and Bartlett's test statistics to obtain Box-Cox power transformation parameter for solving the issues of non-normality and/or heterogeneity of variances in analysis of variance (ANOVA). Simulation studies illustrate that the proposed approach is more successful in attaining normality and variance stabilization, and is at least as good as the usual maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) in estimating the transformation parameter for different conditions. Our proposed method is illustrated on two real-life datasets. Moreover, the proposed algorithm is released under R package AID under the name of "boxcoxfr" for implementation.

An fMRI segmentation method under markov random fields for brain decoding
Aksan, Emre; Yarman Vural, Fatoş Tunay; Department of Computer Engineering (2015)
In this study, a specially tailored segmentation method for partitioning the fMRI data into a set of "homogenous" regions with respect to a predefined cost function is proposed. The proposed method, referred as f-MRF, employs univariate and multivariate fMRI data analysis techniques under Markov Random Fields to estimate the segments by resolving a mixture density. The univariate approach helps identifying activation pattern of a voxel independently from other voxels. In order to capture local interactions ...
A Novel Numerical Method for Evaluation of Hypersingular Integrals in Electromagnetics
Selcuk, Gokhun; Demir, Oguz; Koç, Seyit Sencer (2015-11-28)
In this study we develop a numerical method for evaluation of hypersingular surface integrals, which arise in the solution of electric field integral equation (EFIE) via Nystrom method. Due to the divergent contribution of an infinitesimal area around the singular point, hypersingular integrals are told to be numerically intractable and analytical methods are employed for evaluation of these integrals. In this study we interpret hypersingular integrals as the second order derivative of weakly singular integ...
A NOVEL PARTITIONING METHOD FOR ACCELERATING THE BLOCK CIMMINO ALGORITHM
Torun, F. Sukru; Manguoğlu, Murat; Aykanat, Cevdet (2018-01-01)
We propose a novel block-row partitioning method in order to improve the convergence rate of the block Cimmino algorithm for solving general sparse linear systems of equations. The convergence rate of the block Cimmino algorithm depends on the orthogonality among the block rows obtained by the partitioning method. The proposed method takes numerical orthogonality among block rows into account by proposing a row inner-product graph model of the coefficient matrix. In the graph partitioning formulation define...
A LINEAR MATHEMATICAL-MODEL FOR THE SEISMIC INPLANE BEHAVIOR OF BRICK MASONRY WALLS .2. DETERMINATION OF MODEL PARAMETERS THROUGH OPTIMIZATION USING EXPERIMENTAL-DATA
Sucuoğlu, Haluk; McNiven, Hugh (Wiley, 1984-01-01)
The parameters appearing in the mixture and effective modulus models proposed in Part 1 are determined through optimization by matching theoretical and experimental responses. The optimization analysis is performed in frequency space. The response quantities chosen to be matched are the complex frequency response functions (experimental and theoretical) relating the Fourier transforms of top and base accelerations of the wall. Computations in optimization analysis are carried out by introducing an object (e...
