A combustion model of boron particles for detailed Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) based simulations of ducted rocket combustion chambers is studied. It is aimed to construct a model for combustion of boron containing gas mixtures ejected from a solid propellant gas generator. This model includes all main physical processes required to define an accurate particle combustion simulation. The reaction rate modeling in similar, previous studies are improved for ramjet combustion chambers and this model provides better predictions for all particle sizes. The reactions in the ignition stage are reformulated as competing reactions for consumption of (BO)(n) polymers. Large discrepancies between the experimental and calculated ignition times for the 3 mu m diameter particles in similar studies are eliminated. The developed model is added to a commercial CFD solver and can be used along with gas phase detailed turbulent combustion simulations of ducted rocket combustion chambers. Our simulation approach has provided us an effective tool, which allows us to forecast the effects of the changes on the performance and efficiency. This detailed combustion model is validated with existing experimental results available in open literature. The model is also compared with the results of similar previous studies. Development of view factor correlations for modeling thermal radiation in solid particle solar receivers using CFD-DEM
Johnson, Evan; Baker, Derek Keıth; Tarı, İlker (null; 2018-10-05)
Radiation heat transfer must be modeled when designing any high temperature solid particle solar receiver or particle-fluid heat exchanger, but computationally efficient radiation models are not currently available in coupled Computational Fluid Dynamics - Discrete Element Method (CFD-DEM) codes, which is the focus of this work. Monte Carlo ray tracing simulations were run to find view factors between particles in packed beds, and correlations were found to estimate both particle-particle and particle-wall ...
Enhancement of H-2 Storage in Carbon Nanotubes via Doping with a Boron Nitride Ring
Onay, Aytun Koyuncular; Erkoç, Şakir (American Scientific Publishers, 2009-04-01)
Hydrogen storage capacity of carbon nanotubes with different chirality have been investigated by performing quantum chemical methods at semiempirical and DFT levels of calculations. It has been found that boron nitrite substitutional doping increases the hydrogen storage capacity of carbon nanotubes.
Properties of jets measured from tracks in proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energy root s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector
Aad, G.; et. al. (2011-09-20)
Jets are identified and their properties studied in center-of-mass energy root s = 7 TeV proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider using charged particles measured by the ATLAS inner detector. Events are selected using a minimum bias trigger, allowing jets at very low transverse momentum to be observed and their characteristics in the transition to high-momentum fully perturbative jets to be studied. Jets are reconstructed using the anti-k(t) algorithm applied to charged particles with two radiu...
Computational fluid dynamics simulation of the combustion process, emission formation and the flow field in an in-direct injection diesel engine
Barzegar, Ramin; Shafee, Sina; Khalilarya, Shahram (National Library of Serbia, 2013)
In the present paper, the combustion process and emission formation in the Lister 8.1 in-direct injection diesel engine have been investigated using a computational fluid dynamics code. The utilized model includes detailed spray atomization, mixture formation and distribution model which enable modeling the combustion process in spray/wall and spray/swirl interactions along with flow configurations. The analysis considers both part load and full load states. The global properties are presented separately re...
