Magnetic core/shell nanostructures have been recently received much interest owing to their utmost potential in permanent magnetic applications. In the present work, AlNiCo permanent magnet powders were synthesized by ball milling and a core/shell nanostructure was obtained using RF induced plasma. The effects of particle size and nanoshell structure on the magnetic properties were investigated in details. The coercivity of AlNiCo powders was found to increase with decreasing particle size, exclusively nanopowders encapsulated with Fe3O4 shell showed the highest coercivity values. The shell structure produced during plasma reaction was found to form a resistant layer against oxidation of metallic nanoparticles.

Synthesis of gold nanowires with high aspect ratio and morphological purity
Dertli, Elçin; Nalbant Esentürk, Emren; Ünalan, Hüsnü Emrah; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2012)
Metal nanoparticles have unique optical, electrical, catalytic and mechanical properties, which lead them to various applications in nanotechnology. In particular, noble metal nanowires are attracting growing attention due to their potential applications such as in opto-electronic devices and transparent conductive contacts (TCCs). There are two general approaches to synthesize nanowires: template-assisted and solution phase methods. However, these synthesis approaches have various disadvantages. For exampl...
Synthesis and functionalization of graphene oxide nanocomposites for anticancer drug delivery
Kamal Mohammed Ahmed Hassan, Heba; Evis, Zafer; Tezcaner, Ayşen; Department of Biomedical Engineering (2022-6-27)
Graphene, graphene quantum dots (GQDs) their derivatives and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), all have a wide range of applications in biomedical applications, particularly anticancer drug delivery, due to their large surface area, chemical and mechanical stability, and good biocompatibility. The first goal of this research is to improve the chemistry and solubility of rGO by doping it with boron and decorating it with AuNPs (Au-B-rGO), as well as to improve the loading efficiency of the anticancer drug doxorubi...
Synthesis and characterization of copper based bulk amorphous alloys
Erdem, Mermer; Akdeniz, Mahmut Vedat; Mekhrabov, Amdulla O.; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2013)
Copper based bulk metallic glasses (BMG’s) are one of the promising advanced materials due to their unique mechanical properties, high glass forming ability (GFA) and low cost. In this thesis, the aim is to synthesize Cu-Hf based BMG’s and to investigate the crystallization behavior. Moreover, the crystallization kinetics by means of activation energies, critical cooling rate, nanocrystallization and Avrami exponents have been studied. Cu70Hf30 and Cu50Hf50 binary alloys were produced via arc melting with s...
Structural properties of beta-Fe2O3 nanorods under compression and torsion: Molecular dynamics simulations
Kilic, Mehmet Emin; Alaei, Sholeh (Elsevier BV, 2018-11-01)
In recent years, one-dimensional (1D) magnetic nanostructures, such as magnetic nanorods and chains of magnetic nanoparticles have received great attentions due to the breadth of applications. Especially, magnetic nanorods has been opened an area of active research and applications in medicine, sensors, optofluidics, magnetic swimming, and microrheology since they possess the unique magnetic and geometric features. This study focuses on the molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of an infinitely long crystal b...
