Growth requirements of thermophilic aerobic microorganisms in mixed cultures for the treatment of strong wastes
Surucu, G (1999-01-01)
The nutritional and temperature requirements of a naturally occurring mixed culture of thermophilic microorganisms were studied. Investigations concerning the effect of temperature on the growth characteristics of the mixed culture showed that the rate of growth was highest between 55 and 58 degrees C. Furthermore, it was found that the minimal nutritional requirements for maximum growth of these microorganisms included methionine, magnesium, calcium, and the necessary carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus source...

Growth mechanisms of polypyrroles
Sargin, PS; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Yurtsever, E (1996-03-01)
The oligomerization mechanisms of several derivatives of pyrrole have been studied by quantum-mechanical methods. Different growth processes are compared from the point of view of thermodynamic stabilities to gain insight into the branching possibilities. For the simple polypyrrole, polymerization may proceed through either an a or a beta carbon with equal probabilities. When an aldehyde group is attached to the nitrogen, beta positions are definitely favoured owing to strong steric hindrance. For 2-pyrrole...
Growth and nitrogen fixation dynamic of azotobacter chroococcum in nitrogen-free and omw containing medium
Sarıbay, Gül Fidan; Hamamcı, Haluk; Department of Food Engineering (2003)
Olive Mill Wastewater (OMW), by-product of oil industry, is a dark liquid with a characteristic fetid smell, bitter taste and bright appearance; having a high pollution potential, creating serious problems in countries producing olive oil. Azotobacter chroococcum as a Nitrogen-fixing bacteria can bioremediate OMW, by degrading its toxic constituents. With the help of this detoxification process OMW can be used as biofertilizer. In this study, the dynamics of growth and nitrogen fixation at different physiol...
