In this paper, we present the preliminary data on the age of the radiolarian cherts deposited on top of basalts belonging to the Eastern Ankara Melange (part of the Izmir-Ankara Melange). Petrological studies on the basalts were carried out in order to constrain the tectonic setting of the studied basalt-chert sequences. Nine sections were sampled East and Northeast of Ankara and twenty seven samples were collected for biostratigraphic and geochemical analyses.

Strength of various sands in triaxial and cyclic direct shear tests
ÇABALAR, ALİ FIRAT; Dulundu, Kemal; Tuncay, Kağan (Elsevier BV, 2013-04-01)
This paper presents the result of an extensive series of experimental investigation carried out in triaxial and cyclic direct shear tests on sands having various properties, which were obtained from different locations in Turkey and in Northern Cyprus. In order to investigate the link between strength and physical properties (i.e., shape) of the sand particles, three series of triaxial tests (Consolidated-Drained, CD; Consolidated-Undrained, CU; and Unconsolidated-Undrained, UU) for each were performed unde...
Age and tectonomagmatic setting of the Eocene Copler-Kabatas magmatic complex and porphyry-epithermal Au deposit, East Central Anatolia, Turkey
İmer, Ali; Creaser, Robert A. (2013-06-01)
The Copler epithermal Au deposit and related subeconomic porphyry Cu-Au deposit is hosted by the middle Eocene Copler-KabataAY magmatic complex in central eastern Anatolia. The intrusive rocks of the complex were emplaced into Late Paleozoic-Mesozoic metamorphosed sedimentary basement rocks near the northeastern margin of the Tauride-Anatolide Block. Igneous biotite from two samples of the magmatic complex yielded Ar-40/Ar-39 plateau ages of 43.75 +/- 0.26 Ma and 44.19 +/- 0.23, whereas igneous hornblende f...
Evolution of mafic lavas in Central Anatolia: Mantle source domains

We present new Sr-Nd-Pb-Hf isotopic data on mafic lavas from the Sivas, Develidag, Erciyes, and Erkilet volcanic complexes in central Turkey and Tenchirek in eastern Turkey to evaluate the mantle sources for volcanism in the context of the geodynamic evolution of the Anatolian microplate. Early Miocene through Quaternary volcanism in Western Anatolia and latest Miocene through Quaternary activity in Central Anatolia were dominated by contributions from two distinct source regions: heterogeneous metasomatize...
Late Cretaceous-Eocene Geological Evolution of the Pontides Based on New Stratigraphic and Palaeontologic Data Between the Black Sea Coast and Bursa (NW Turkey)
Ozcan, Zahide; Okay, Aral; Özcan, Ercan; Hakyemez, Aynur; Altıner, Sevinç (2012-01-01)
The Late Cretaceous-Eocene geological evolution of northwest Turkey between the Black Sea and Bursa was studied through detailed biostratigraphic characterization of eleven stratigraphic sections. The Upper Cretaceous sequence in the region starts with a major marine transgression and lies unconformably on a basement of Palaeozoic and Triassic rocks in the north (Istanbul-type basement) and on metamorphic rocks and Jurassic sedimentary rocks in the south (Sakarya-type basement). Four megasequences have been...
The Jurassic-Early Cretaceous basalt-chert association in the ophiolites of the Ankara Melange, east of Ankara, Turkey: age and geochemistry

This study is focused on slide blocks including oceanic lavas associated with pelagic sediments within the eastern part of the Ankara Melange. A detailed petrological characterization of the volcanic rocks and a detailed biochronological investigation of the associated radiolarian cherts in eight sections (east of Ankara) was carried out. The volcanic rocks are largely represented by basalts and minor ferrobasalts and trachytes. They show different geochemical affinities and overlapping ages including: (a) ...
