A new mesoporous catalyst support material was synthesized by incorporation of zirconia into the structure of MCM-41 through a one-pot procedure. Catalytic performances of MCM-41 and Zr incorporated MCM-41 (25Zr-MCM-41) supported Ni or Cu catalysts were investigated in steam reforming of acetic acid reaction, at 750 degrees C. Some deformation in the ordered pore structure of MCM-41 was observed as a result of Zr incorporation. The activity test results showed that the catalytic performances of the zirconia incorporated MCM-41 were more stable than the MCM-41 supported materials. The catalysts containing 5% and 10% Ni gave highly promising results to achieve high hydrogen selectivity. However, the performance of the catalysts containing 5% Ni was more stable. Comparison of performances of Cu and Ni based catalysts showed that Cu was not a good catalyst for the steam reforming reaction of acetic acid. In the presence of copper, mainly decarboxylation reaction of acetic acid took place, yielding large quantities of methane. Results proved that, 5% Ni impregnated 25Zr-MCM-41 was a highly promising catalytic material for hydrogen production through steam reforming of acetic acid.

Zirconia incorporated SBA-15 type mesoporous material was synthesized following a one pot hydrothermal route, characterized and used as the catalyst support in the synthesis of Ni and bi-metallic Ni W based catalysts. Performances of these catalysts were tested in steam reforming of AcOH. Catalytic activity tests proved that the performances of SBA-15 and Zr-SBA-15 supported Ni based catalysts were highly stable and they also showed very high activity in steam reforming of acetic acid, giving complete conve...
Ni and cu incorporated mesoporous nanocomposite catalytic materials
Nalbant, Asli; Doğu, Timur; Balci, Suna (2008-02-01)
Nickel and copper incorporated MCM-41-like mesoporous nanocomposite materials prepared by the direct hydrothermal synthesis and the impregnation procedures showed highly attractive pore structure and surface area results for catalytic applications. The XRD patterns showed that characteristic MCM-41 structure was preserved for the materials synthesized following an impregnation procedure before the calcination step. The surface area of the Cu impregnated material with a quite high Cu/Si atomic ratio (0.19) w...
Direct hydrothermal synthesis of palladium-incorporated silicate-structured mesoporous catalysts
Sener, Canan; Doğu, Timur; Dogu, Guelsen (2007-01-01)
Pd-Si-structured novel mesoporous nanocomposite catalytic materials, having quite high Pd/Si ratios, were synthesized by an acidic direct hydrothermal synthesis route. The nanocomposite catalytic materials were then characterized by XRD, XPS, EDS, nitrogen adsorption, and SEM techniques. Unlike MCM-41, the XRD patterns indicated a rather wide d((100)) band at a 2 theta value of about 1.9. The materials, with very high Pd/Si wt ratios between 1.43 and 2.66, were synthesized and had BJH surface area values be...

The synthesis , spectroscopic and electrochemical properties of a series of donor-acceptor (DA) type polymers by changing the donor unit (thiophene, dithienopyrrole) polymer backbone were investigated. The synthesized CoP1 and CoP2 were designed to investigate the effect of copolymerization and insertion of perylene tetracarboxylic dimide (PDI) on the structure of benzotriazole (BTz) based polymers. For CoP1 1,7-dibromo-perylene diimide,4,7-dibromo-2-dodecyl-2H-benzo[d][1,2,3]triazole and 2,5 bis(tributylsta...

Herein, we developed a precursor approach toward the design of a titanium nitride (TiN)/silicon nitride (Si3N4) nanocomposite with an activated carbon monolith as a support matrix forming a highly micro-/mesoporous component to be used as a Pt support for the catalytic hydrolysis of sodium borohydride (NaBH4) as a model reaction. The experimental data demonstrated that the amorphous Si3N4 matrix, the strong Pt-TiN nanocluster interaction and the synergistic effects between the three components contributed t...
